How Youll Succeed (responsibilities):

Requirements Gathering:

  • Lead requirement gathering sessions with business, operations, and technology stakeholders to elicit and document complex business, functional, and non-functional requirements for payments initiatives.
  • Analyze current and future state processes to ensure requirements are clear, complete, traceable, and suitable for technology implementation.
  • Develop high-quality solution requirements artefacts adhering to CIBCs EDF methodology, including functional solution requirements, non-functional requirements, use cases, user stories, and data mapping documents.
  • Clarify scope, assumptions, dependencies, and constraints to support efficient project execution and reduce delivery risk.

Solution Design:

  • Collaborate with Business, Operations, Vendor Product SMEs, Quality Engineering, developers, and architects to design solutions aligned with business objectives and technical standards.
  • Review, and validate solution design documentation to ensure completeness, quality, and alignment with approved scope and requirements.
  • Provide business analysis expertise to support payment application product upgrades, SWIFT regulatory releases, and Payments Canada-driven initiatives.
  • Evaluate impacts of changes across payment processes, systems, and integrations to support effective implementation planning.

Stakeholder Management and Delivery Support:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business and technology partners to support effective communication, decision-making, and delivery outcomes.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact between business and technology stakeholders for requirements clarification, issue resolution, and delivery coordination.
  • Provide regular status updates, risks, issues, and dependency insights to project managers and leadership to support informed decision-making.
  • Coordinate with peer technology groups to ensure seamless delivery of changes across dependent systems and teams.

Testing and Quality Enablement:

  • Support Quality Engineers on SWIFT payments and ISO 20022 requirements to address knowledge gaps and improve testing effectiveness.
  • Review test scenarios, test cases, test results, and other testing artefacts prior to and during test execution phases to ensure coverage and quality.
  • Participate in SIT and UAT support activities, including validation of business scenarios and analysis of defects and gaps.
  • Contribute to defect triage discussions and recommend workarounds to support Operations teams in payment processing and settlement activities.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure requirements, solutions, and processes align with AML, sanctions screening, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Incorporate regulatory, operational, and control considerations into analysis and solution definition for payments initiatives.
  • Support delivery of changes mandated by SWIFT and/or Payments Canada while maintaining adherence to enterprise standards and governance expectations.
  • Identify risks, control gaps, and compliance impacts early in the delivery lifecycle to support effective mitigation.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and implement process enhancements to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of product and platform services.
  • Recommend changes to business analysis practices, delivery processes, and documentation standards to enhance quality and consistency.
  • Stay current on industry best practices, regulatory updates, and developments in the payments landscape to inform solution design and delivery.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise to improve team capability, delivery maturity, and business outcomes.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • This job works closely with Payments Business and Operations teams to elicit requirements, clarify process impacts, and validate business outcomes.
  • This job collaborates with project managers to provide status updates, requirement insights, risk assessments, and delivery support.
  • This job partners with developers, architects, and peer technology groups to translate requirements into effective technology solutions and ensure seamless implementation.
  • This job interacts with Vendor Product SMEs to understand product capabilities, regulatory changes, and implementation considerations.
  • This job supports Quality Engineering teams by providing subject matter expertise, reviewing testing artefacts, and helping resolve requirement gaps and defects.
  • This job engages with leadership to communicate progress, issues, dependencies, and recommendations related to payments initiatives.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

  • Supports payment application product upgrades and regulatory initiatives across Enterprise Payments Technology.
  • Provides specialized business analysis expertise for SWIFT payments, ISO 20022, RTGS, and wire payments initiatives.
  • Acts as a primary liaison between Business, Operations, Quality Engineering, and Technology partners for assigned projects and enhancements.
  • Contributes to delivery of regulatory and operational changes mandated by SWIFT and/or Payments Canada.
  • Provides advisory and support services through requirements analysis, solution documentation, test support, defect triage, and process improvement.

Experience: 7+ years of experience

Who You Are (skills/qualifications):

Education:Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related field.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst/Consultant with strong domain expertise in payments technology.
  • Deep knowledge of SWIFT payments, wire payments, RTGS, ISO 20022 implementation, and SWIFT regulatory releases.
  • Strong understanding of AML, sanctions screening, and regulatory requirements relevant to payments processing.
  • Strong knowledge of requirements management, solution design documentation, use cases, user stories, and data mapping.
  • Understanding of payment operations, settlement processes, and defect/workaround management.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies including Scrum and Kanban, as well as Waterfall delivery approaches.
  • Experience supporting testing activities including SIT and UAT.

Must Have Skills:

  • Strong business analysis and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex business needs into clear, actionable requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across business and technology teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate workshops and present updates to leadership.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail, completeness, and traceability.
  • Ability to work independently, lead initiatives, and drive tasks through to completion.
  • Ability to guide Quality Engineers on payments concepts, requirement interpretation, and testing expectations.
  • Strong review and quality assurance skills for test scenarios, test cases, test results, and related delivery artefacts.
  • Ability to participate effectively in defect triage and recommend practical workarounds for operational continuity.

Good to Have:

Good to have banking experience.
