Senior DevOps Specialist to support DevOps automation initiatives using Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, and AWS - 1752
Location: Toronto or Waterloo (Hybrid โ onsite once every two weeks)
*Should be eligible for Reliability Clearance (Must have lived in Canada for 5 consecutive years)
This contractor will support active DevOps automation initiatives and may contribute to emerging GenAI/agentic AI work depending on their background. The team is under delivery pressure and needs someone who can ramp up quickly, work independently, and take ownership of assigned initiatives.
Must Haves
- 5+ years of hands-on DevOps / Cloud / Automation engineering experience.
- AWS (preferred cloud): IAM, EC2, S3, RDS/Redshift, Lambda, Secrets Manager, VPC/networking, CloudWatch.
- Ansible: Ansible Automation Platform 2 - advanced: roles, collections, Jinja templates, workflows, dynamic inventory, vault, custom execution environments.
- Jenkins - declarative & scripted pipelines, shared libraries (Groovy), JTE libraries, credentials management.
- Terraform - custom and reusable modules, state management, multi-environment deployments.
- Source control: Git and Bitbucket (branching strategy, PR workflows, pipeline integration).
- Scripting/programming: Python (primary), plus PowerShell and/or Bash.
- REST API
- Solid understanding of database operations and infrastructure
- Security & Credential Management
- Practical experience with secure password and certificate rotation at scale.
- CyberArk, HashiCorp Vault, Active Directory, TLS
- Containers & Platform
- Docker/Podman image build and lifecycle.
Nice to Have
- AWS certification (Solutions Architect / DevOps Engineer Professional).
- Observability tooling: Grafana, InfluxDB, Tableau.
- ITSM/Jira automation and integration experience.
- Experience in financial services or other regulated industries with audit/compliance requirements.
- Prior experience delivering enterprise-wide AI/automation platforms with multiple consuming teams.
- AI / GenAI
- Demonstrated experience building GenAI or agentic AI solutions in production or near-production.
- RAG - chunking, embeddings, vector stores, retrieval evaluation.
- MCP (Model Context Protocol) - building servers/clients and tool integrations.
- Agent frameworks - LangGraph / LangChain, AWS Bedrock AgentCore (or equivalent agent runtime).
- Prompt engineering, LLM evaluation, guardrails, and cost/token awareness.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, shared and JTE pipeline libraries) for database and infrastructure automation.
- Develop and extend Ansible roles, playbooks and execution environments for configuration management and operational automation.
- Build and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform and other IaC tooling.
- Implement secure, automated rotation and lifecycle management of passwords, service accounts, API keys and TLS certificates across cloud, database and Kubernetes environments, using CyberArk, HashiCorp Vault, Active Directory/LDAP and Kubernetes secrets integrations.
- Design and build GenAI/agentic AI solutions - RAG pipelines, agent orchestration, MCP servers/clients, tool-calling integrations with internal REST APIs and DevOps systems.
- Integrate automation with enterprise systems via REST APIs (ITSM/ticketing, monitoring, source control, secrets platforms).
- Support operational readiness: logging, monitoring, alerting, error handling, and runbook automation.
- Follow enterprise security, compliance and change-management controls in a regulated (financial services) environment.
