Key Responsibilities

• Professional / Clinical leadership and management that promotes efficiency, innovation team work and continues quality improvements.
• Clinical teaching for staff and post graduate nursing students and staff.
• Provision of formal and informal lectures and workshops for nursing staff and post graduates students.
• Orientation of new staff members in the area.
• In-service education including formal and informal education/training for staff in the Department and other staff in the ward areas when requested.

• Contribute to and drive the implementation of the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) standards and recommendations.
• Develop objectives for all new staff joining the nursing team and provide unit based clinical teaching for new staff , in association with other team members.
• Plan relevant clinical placements to facilitate the required experiences of the staff undertaking Post graduate in nursing, in conjunction with programme leader in University College Dublin, Post Registration Nurse Tutor and relevant hospital staff.
• Work with students and staff in the clinical area, assess their knowledge and plan their educational development ensuring learning outcomes are achieved.
• Facilitate course participants in integrating theory to practice and promote the concept of clinical skills teaching in the clinical area.
• Complete the competency assessments with course nurses with the input of senior staff, and provide counselling and guidance where necessary.
• Maintain a record of each students experience and provide feedback to the student and relevant Nurse Managers.
• Provide specialist-nursing tutorials /lectures to Post Graduate students and Staff
• Liaise with course leader in UCD and with post-graduation Nurse Tutor in St. Vincent’s University Hospital in relation to all aspects of the Post Graduate Diploma in Nursing.
• Supervision of qualified and unqualified staff whilst maintaining a safe working and Patient environment.
• Ensure implementation of all Hospital policies with special emphasis on safe practice.
• Contribute to practice development, and be involved in writing policies, standards and guidelines in liaison with practice development.
• Act as a clinical resource for nursing, allied health and medical staff.
• Support Clinical nurse managers and staff nurse in their teaching role ensuring that students learning objectives and required competencies are achieved at unit level.
• Determine the educational needs of the nursing staff, and make recommendations in conjunction with the clinical nurse managers and ADON as to how these needs are met.
• Plan coordinate and implement in service/continuing education for nursing staff with the assistance of Clinical Nurse Managers.
• Liaise and work with group of post registration clinical facilitators employed across the hospital in matters relating to education, nursing practice and development of policies and procedures.
• In conjunction with the clinical nurse managers and senior nursing staff, participate in probation assessment, staff review and professional development of staff within the department.
• Participate in the hospital wide in-service education programme where appropriate.
• Work on and attend committees / managerial and Clinical meetings relevant of the role of the Clinical facilitator.
• Prepare and submit an annual report of the work activities of the Clinical nurse facilitators to the CNM3/ADON
• Promote the delivery of a high standard of care to all patients treated across the Directorate.
• Promote the development of nurse led initiatives, which enhance health and social gain responding to service needs.
• Comply with Nurses and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) Code of Professional Conduct.
• Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of quality assurance and clinical effectiveness in nursing practice.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams on the development of policies, standards, audit and research
• Lead the interdisciplinary team through the accreditation process
• Ensure all hospital policies and procedures are complied with
• Ensure that all staff within the division are familiar with the plan for management of critical incidents and that the department is ready to meet such a demand.
• Liaise with the Clinical Nurse Manager on a daily basis to ensure effective communication in relation to strategic and operational issues regarding staff development and service planning.
