Role Overview Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Sales Manager to lead, develop and improve the performance of its sales function from the Group's Monaghan Head Office. The primary focus of the role will be the leadership and development of the inside sales team, creating the structure, coaching, sales targets, KPIs and performance management framework required to consistently deliver commercial results. The successful candidate will also manage members of the company's field sales team, with scope to further develop and grow this function as the business expands.
This is not simply an individual sales role. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a strong track record of recruiting & leading salespeople, improving team performance and translating commercial targets into clear sales activity and measurable results. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Sales Manager will play a key role in creating a high-performance sales environment based on clear expectations, strong coaching, commercial discipline and accountability.
Key Responsibilities Sales Team Leadership & Development Lead, motivate and develop the inside sales team. Establish clear individual and team sales objectives. Conduct regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews and structured coaching sessions.
Identify individual development needs and implement appropriate coaching and development plans. Create a positive, ambitious and accountable sales culture. Support team members in developing their commercial capability, customer conversations and closing skills.
Address underperformance constructively and decisively. Identify future recruitment requirements and support the hiring and onboarding of additional salespeople. Sales Targets, KPIs & Performance Management Develop and implement clear sales targets across the team.
Establish meaningful KPIs covering sales activity, pipeline development, conversion and commercial outcomes. Create effective weekly, monthly and quarterly sales reporting. Monitor performance against targets and take corrective action where required.
Use sales data to identify opportunities, performance gaps and areas for improvement. Ensure salespeople understand both the activity required and the commercial outcomes expected of them. Relevant measures may include: Revenue performance.
Gross margin. New customer acquisition. Existing account growth.
Customer retention. Sales pipeline value. Pipeline coverage.
Quote-to-order conversion. Outbound activity. Customer engagement.
Average order value. Forecast accuracy. Inside Sales Management Provide day-to-day leadership to the Monaghan-based inside sales function.
Introduce structure and consistency around prospecting, account development and opportunity management. Support the team in identifying cross-sell, upsell and customer-development opportunities. Ensure leads and commercial opportunities are followed through effectively.
Improve the quality and consistency of customer contact. Develop structured approaches to dormant, lapsed and underdeveloped customer accounts. Ensure the team maintains strong CRM discipline and accurate pipeline information.
Field Sales Management Manage and support existing field-based sales team members. Establish clear sales targets, territory objectives and activity expectations. Conduct regular reviews of territory performance and customer-development plans.
Accompany field sales representatives on customer visits where appropriate. Support the development of strategic customer and territory plans. Identify opportunities to expand field sales coverage.
Support the recruitment and development of additional field sales personnel as the function grows. Sales Planning & Commercial Growth Work closely with the CEO to translate business objectives into practical sales plans. Identify opportunities to increase revenue within existing customer segments.
Develop approaches to winning new customers and expanding market penetration. Analyse sales performance by customer, territory, product category and salesperson. Identify underperforming accounts and commercial opportunities.
Support pricing, margin and commercial decision-making. Improve forecast visibility and pipeline accuracy. Ensure the sales team is focused on profitable, sustainable growth.
Person Profile The successful candidate will be an experienced Sales Manager with a minimum of five years' relevant sales leadership experience and a demonstrable record of delivering results through others. The ideal candidate will have operated in an industrial, technical, manufacturing, PPE/workwear, construction products, trade distribution or similar B2B sales environment. While direct industrial sales experience is highly desirable, candidates from adjacent sectors will be considered where they can demonstrate experience managing a structured B2B sales function involving account management, new business development and measurable sales performance.
Essential Experience Candidates should be able to demonstrate: Minimum five years' experience in sales management or a comparable sales leadership position. Direct management of an inside sales, telesales, account management or business development team. Experience setting and managing individual and team sales targets.
Strong knowledge of sales KPIs and performance measurement. Proven ability to coach and develop salespeople. Experience managing underperformance.
Strong sales forecasting and pipeline-management capability. Experience using CRM systems to manage sales performance. Strong commercial and numerical capability.
Experience managing both existing accounts and new-business activity. Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, owner-led business. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work fully onsite in Monaghan. Highly Desirable Experience Industrial sales. PPE, workwear or uniforms.
