About Ferri AI: Ferri AI is an early-stage nonprofit tech initiative building a digital ID and rescue-dispatch system for street animals in Bangalore , in the animal welfare space, building a mobile-first platform to connect street animals in need of help with nearby rescue organizations.

Role Overview: We're looking for a Backend Development Intern to build the core database and API layer powering animal profiles, medical records, and the NGO request-assignment system. This is the foundation the entire product is built on. This is a founding-team role, which means you will independently choose your tech stack, architecture, and tools. There is no existing codebase or senior engineer to guide implementation. You'll own your technical decisions end-to-end. If you hit a technical blocker, the founder will try to help find resources, but cannot provide hands-on technical support.

Responsibilities:

- Design and build a database schema for a location-based public welfare application - Build REST APIs for core app functionality, including profile data retrieval and a request-submission flow - Implement location-based matching logic to connect users with the right service provider - Write basic documentation for every module you build - Meetings with Founder. Founder check-in meetings are for progress updates and prioritization, not technical guidance.

Required Skills:

- Working knowledge of Node.js, Django, or Flask - Basic SQL or Firebase/Firestore experience - Familiarity with REST API design - Git/GitHub workflow

Nice to Have:

- Experience with geolocation-based queries - Exposure to cloud hosting (AWS/GCP/Render/Railway)

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, as Ferri AI is a pre-funding nonprofit initiative. In exchange, interns get hands-on ownership, and recognition for early contribution to the product.
