Role Description

This full-time, on-site Fiber Technician role is based in Schofields, NSW. The Fiber Technician is responsible for installing, hauling, and terminating fiber optic cables, including preparation of cables and hardware for splicing and connection. Day-to-day tasks include performing fiber splicing, conducting optical testing, identifying and rectifying faults, and documenting test results and work completed.

The role involves troubleshooting network issues, reading and interpreting plans, and collaborating with supervisors and other field technicians to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to specification. The technician is expected to follow all workplace health and safety procedures, maintain tools and equipment, and provide professional on-site support to clients and contractors.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with fiber optics and fibre technologies, including splicing, testing, and fault finding.
  • Strong hands-on skills with cables and cabling, including installation, hauling, termination, and cable management.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting network and connectivity issues, using appropriate diagnostic tools and methods.
  • Understanding of basic optics principles as they apply to fiber transmission and performance testing.
  • Relevant technical certification or trade qualification in telecommunications or a related field is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to work safely on-site, including adherence to WHS standards, use of PPE, and compliance with company procedures.
  • Good communication skills, ability to read and interpret technical drawings, and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally to various job sites as required.
