Job Description

Position Title: Advising Representative (Portfolio Manager)

Location: Toronto, ON (Remote)

Role Type: Full-Time | Dedicated Discretionary Advisory

The Reality for Many CIM® Holders

You earned your Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) designation, put in the study hours, and built your investment expertise.

Yet at traditional IIROC/CIRO dealers or bank branches, you hit the same wall: Discretionary Portfolio Manager status is locked behind arbitrary asset thresholds, rigid sales quotas, or decades of seniority. You are stuck collecting signatures for routine rebalances while your designation sits unused.

Here is the opportunity you have been waiting for.

We are looking for a CIM® (or CFA) holder ready to immediately step into a fully registered, dedicated Advising Representative (AR) role.

No cold calling. No security selection grind. No administrative red tape keeping you from using your credentials.

Why Make the Move?

  • Immediate Registration: We actively sponsor qualified CIM®/CFA candidates for registration as an Advising Representative (AR) via NRD.
  • Pure Discretionary Advisory: Focus entirely on client advice, KYC, suitability, and model portfolio assignment—without managing stock picks or trade executions.
  • Institutional Support: Our Chief Investment Officer and investment team handle the asset allocation, manager research, and model construction. You apply the framework to real people.
  • Unbiased Fiduciary Environment: Provide conflict-free advice with zero pressure to push high-fee proprietary products.

Core Responsibilities

  • KYC & Investor Profile Oversight: Review and approve Investor Profiles. Assess completeness, financial circumstances, risk tolerance, and time horizons to ensure bulletproof documentation.
  • Suitability & AR Sign-Off: Exercise independent professional judgment to evaluate, approve, and sign off on investment strategies and model portfolio assignments.
  • Direct Client & Member Advice: Conduct consultations on investment objectives, retirement strategy, and portfolio alignment. Guide individuals through major life and career transitions.
  • Model Portfolio Assignment: Determine and approve optimal model portfolios aligned strictly with client KYC profiles.
  • Regulatory Governance: Ensure all registrable activities meet provincial securities regulations (NI 31-103) with precise recordkeeping.

Required Qualifications

  • Credentials: Active CIM® (or CFA charter) in good standing.
  • Registration: Currently registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as an Advising Representative (AR) in Ontario.
  • Experience: Meets the required Relevant Investment Management Experience (RIME) under NI 31-103 (e.g., 48 months for CIM®, or 12 months post-charter for CFA).
  • Skills: Strong foundation in KYC/KYP compliance, asset allocation concepts, and direct client communication. Experience in group retirement or HNW wealth planning is a strong asset.

Ready to Finally Use Your CIM®?

If you have the qualifications to be a Portfolio Manager, stop waiting for permission at your current firm.
