Job Description
A well-established Vancouver law firm is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the firm’s accounting operations and support its accounting function. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional with a strong bookkeeping and accounting background to take on a key role within a collaborative professional services environment.
The successful candidate will have strong hands-on accounting experience, with particular knowledge of Law Society of British Columbia requirements and trust accounting. This role is well suited to someone who is detail-oriented, proactive and comfortable managing the day-to-day accounting needs of a busy law firm while ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the firm’s accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll and trust accounting
- Oversee full-cycle accounting, financial reporting and month-end and year-end processes
- Manage and maintain trust accounts in accordance with Law Society of British Columbia requirements
- Ensure compliance with Law Society trust accounting rules and audit requirements
- Develop, manage and monitor budgets and financial forecasts
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships and tax compliance
- Establish, maintain and improve internal controls, policies and procedures
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reporting and provide analysis of financial trends and performance
- Support financial systems and participate in system implementations and upgrades
- Oversee payroll, compensation structures, bonuses and partner distributions
- Coordinate year-end processes and liaise with external accountants
- Provide financial insights to leadership to support decision-making
- Develop and improve accounting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- CPA designation or progress toward a CPA is considered an asset
- Minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Previous experience within a law firm or professional services environment is strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of Law Society of British Columbia rules and trust accounting
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and regulatory compliance
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Experience with ProLaw is considered an asset
- Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Professionalism, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality
Compensation & Benefits
$85,000-$100,000, commensurate with experience.
