Business Head – Operations & New Business Building
Awign | Bengaluru (HSR Layout)
About Awign
Awign is a work-as-a-service platform that enables enterprises to execute large-scale work through a network of 1.5 million gig workers. Awign serves enterprise needs across promoter deployment, retail and SOP audits, merchant and seller onboarding, telecalling services, EdTech solutions, content moderation, catalog operations, loyalty and rewards, and omni/expert staffing.
Founded in 2016 by three IIT graduates, Awign has raised over $40 million in funding and was recently acquired by Mynavi Corporation, a major Japanese workforce solutions firm, which now holds a majority stake. With this backing, Awign is scaling its existing business lines and investing in new business verticals.
Role Overview
Awign is hiring a Business Head to lead the end-to-end build-out of a new business vertical or operating unit. This is not a role to manage an existing, steady-state operation — it is a role to build one. The mandate covers designing the operating model from first principles, establishing revenue and go-to-market motion, building the team and processes required to execute, and scaling the unit to a meaningful size with sound unit economics.
The role will report into the VP – Operations and work in close partnership with founders and senior leadership to convert early-stage business bets into scaled, running businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Business Building
- Design and stand up the operating model for a new business vertical or unit, starting from an early or pre-scale stage
- Define the go-to-market approach, target customer segments, and initial commercial model
- Identify and validate the right metrics, pricing, and unit economics for the business as it scales
P&L and Commercial Ownership
- Own revenue and P&L for the business unit, including pricing strategy, cost structure, and margin management
- Track and improve unit economics as the business moves from early stage to scale
- Report on business performance to senior leadership with clear visibility into revenue, cost, and profitability drivers
Execution and Operations
- Build and lead the team required to run the business — hiring, structuring, and developing the team as it grows
- Establish operating processes, SLAs, and quality/performance standards appropriate to the business
- Use data, dashboards, and technology to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement
Cross-functional Leadership
- Work closely with founders, the VP – Operations, and functional leaders (product, technology, finance, HR) to align the business unit with company-wide priorities
- Represent the business unit in leadership reviews and strategic planning discussions
- Manage stakeholder relationships across internal teams and, where relevant, external clients or partners
Requirements
- 7–14 years of overall experience, with a clear track record of having built a product, business line, city operation, or vertical from an early stage to meaningful scale
- Background in startups or high-growth, resource-constrained environments; experience limited to legacy corporates, IT services, staffing, or telecom companies will not be a fit for this role
- Demonstrated ability to own both the growth/commercial side (GTM, pricing, revenue) and the operational side (execution, process, team-building) of a business
- P&L or revenue ownership experience, with the ability to speak to specific numbers and outcomes rather than general responsibility
- Experience managing distributed, cross-functional, or multi-location teams is an advantage, though not mandatory
- Strong academic pedigree (tier-1 engineering or management institutes) and experience at recognized high-growth companies is preferred
