DiSSCo Digitisation Coordinator
National Museums NI is a leading cultural institution and is responsible for ensuring that its significant collection is developed, cared for and accessible to the widest possible audience. Almost one million people enjoy our four museums each year, and through loans, research, community activity and digital programmes we engage a much wider audience than those who physically visit our museums.
DiSSCo UK (Distributed System of Scientific Collections UK) is a £155m, 10-year national digitisation programme which will centralise natural science collections from across the UK on one portal. The programme is funded through the UKRI Infrastructure Fund and delivered through AHRC in partnership with the Natural History Museum and over 100 partners across the UK. National Museums NI is part of the DiSSCo West hub, a consortium led by Amgueddfa Cymru (National Museums Wales) that has secured £1.6m for the first phase to digitise hundreds of thousands of natural science specimens across Wales, south west England and Northern Ireland. The newly digitised data will make natural science collections openly accessible to researchers worldwide, supporting global research into biodiversity loss and climate resilience. Centralising this scientific data will make it far easier for scientists to access globally, rather than being held by individual museums.
We are looking for Digitisation Coordinator to lead a small team of digistisers, with responsibility for allocating work, monitoring throughput, and maintaining pace to ensure unit-level delivery.
