What You Will Do
Johnson Controls has an exciting Electrical Engineer opportunity based at our Dublin, Ireland location, supporting our new European air-cooled chiller engineering organization. If you enjoy electrical analysis, detailed design, and control, this could be the right position for you.
How You Will Do It
- Completes detailed design of electrical power panels, control panels, variable speed drives, and wire harnesses in accordance with CE marking requirements and applicable European directives – including the Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, and Machinery Directive – and harmonized standards such as EN/IEC 61439 and EN/IEC 60204-1
- Works under general supervision, following work instructions and defined processes to conceptualize and implement design ideas into the product
- Defines and plans own activities for a project and completes detailed design work
- Writes product specifications, and prepares, checks, and coordinates the release of documentation to support designs
- Provides support to application engineers, designers, factory operations, product marketing, and product technical service, and can mentor new hires at the Engineer I level
- Reports the status of own work, and that of junior team members, to the project team, with good written and verbal communication
- Helps execute test programs to validate the electrical performance and reliability of chiller systems and components; analyzes, modifies, and troubleshoots sub-components based on test data
- Contributes to the accurate and on-time completion of projects and regularly reports on the status of assigned work
- Selects suitable electrical components, considering cost, performance, and reliability
- Continuously increases expertise across chiller electrical design, theory, construction, operation, and applications; participates in process improvement
- Uses standard technical and mathematical principles, theories, concepts, and best-practice methodologies in the field
- Responsible for engineering drawings, including electrical schematics and bills of materials
- Adheres to the Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics standards
Required
What we look for
- BS in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in a related field
- Working knowledge of European electrical directives and standards (CE marking, Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, Machinery Directive) and harmonized IEC/EN standards
- Proficient in electrical design, able to conceptualize and implement design ideas into the product
- Able to organize and process large amounts of data
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, schedule-driven, team-oriented environment
- Ability to travel up to 10%, primarily within Europe
Preferred
- Experience engineering industrial products in engineer-to-order, applied, or made-to-order environments
- Understanding of chiller controls and variable speed drives (VSDs)
- Familiarity with HVAC systems and motor-driven mechanical engineering design and test
- Experience with product development and sustaining of configurable systems
- Experience with ERP / material resource planning (MRP) software
- Experience applying European regulatory standards such as EN/IEC 61439, EN/IEC 60204-1, etc.
