Job Description
Tool Design & Maintenance Engineer
Job title field: Tool Design & Maintenance Engineer
Location: Bengaluru (Yeshwanthpur)
Workplace type: On-site
Seniority: Mid-Senior level
Indicative CTC: ₹7–10 LPA
Experience: 4-6 years
Nisiki Technologies is a Bengaluru-based precision components manufacturer, in business since 1997. We're the market leader in India for 2-wheeler starter motor commutators (~65% share) and small appliance commutators (~85% share), making around 1.8 million commutators a month across two units. We supply Bosch, Honda, Hyundai, TVS, Maruti Suzuki, Havells, DeWalt and Metabo among 100+ active customers, from facilities certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Tooling availability sets the ceiling on how much we can make. This role owns both halves of that — designing the moulds and fixtures that let new parts launch, and running the maintenance system that keeps 1.8 million commutators a month moving out of the door.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Design compression and transfer moulds, turning fixtures, slot-cutting and hook-bending tooling for new parts
• Size cavities, gating, venting and ejection for thermoset moulding at production volumes
• Build and run a shot-count-based PM schedule per mould, not a calendar-based one
• Maintain tool history cards, wear tracking and tool life records
• Diagnose tooling-driven defects — flash, short moulding, segment burr, dimensional drift on turning
• Root cause to the tool rather than to the operator, with evidence
• Supervise the tool room team and allocate work against production priority
• Control external tool vendors for work not done in-house
• Drive cycle time reduction, cavity count increases and tool life extension
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
• Diploma or BE in Mechanical Engineering, or a formal tool and die apprenticeship (NTTF, CIPET or equivalent)
• 2–4 years in a tool room in precision manufacturing
• Genuine tool design experience — has taken a tool from concept to production, not maintenance alone
• Moulding tool experience, ideally compression or transfer
• AutoCAD or SolidWorks for tool design
• Practical knowledge of CNC machining, EDM and grinding processes
• Has run a preventive maintenance system and can state the tool life achieved and how it was measured
NICE TO HAVE
• Thermoset moulding experience specifically — phenolic or melamine compounds
• Experience supervising a tool room team
• Exposure to IATF 16949 tooling and maintenance documentation requirements
• Involvement in commissioning tooling at a new plant
WHY NISIKI
A 25-year-old business behaving like a young one — around 9% revenue CAGR, a new plant coming up in Andhra Pradesh, a ground-up ERP rebuild, a technology licensing agreement with one of Europe's largest commutator manufacturers, and live acquisition activity. The team is lean, so your work is visible to the Managing Director within weeks rather than years.
