An international fine jewellery and diamond business recognised for its product expertise, quality craftsmanship and longstanding industry relationships. With an established global infrastructure and extensive capabilities across natural diamonds, laboratory-grown diamonds and finished jewellery, the business is entering an important new phase of international growth.
The Sales Manager will play a central role in establishing the brand's Australian presence. The successful candidate will have the backing, product capability and operational support of an experienced international organisation, while retaining the autonomy to shape the local commercial strategy and build the market from the ground up.
The Role |
Based in Sydney, this newly created position will initially operate as a standalone market leadership role, with responsibility for establishing and growing the Australian wholesale business.
You will develop the market-entry strategy, identify and secure new retail and trade partnerships, and take ownership of the Australian sales pipeline, revenue and commercial performance. You will introduce the company's diamond and jewellery offer to the local market, developing tailored product and commercial solutions that reflect each customer's positioning, clientele and business objectives.
This is a highly visible, hands‑on position combining strategic business planning with direct sales execution. You will manage the complete customer journeyfrom initial market mapping, prospecting and presentations through to commercial negotiations, ranging, onboarding and ongoing account development.
Working closely with international leadership and operational teams, you will ensure customer opportunities are translated into commercially viable product, inventory and delivery outcomes. As the Australian business develops, you will establish the foundations for a scalable local operation and recruit and lead a Sydney‑based team.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and executing the Australian market‑entry and growth strategy
- Establishing and growing the Australian wholesale diamond and fine jewellery business
- Identifying and securing partnerships with independent jewellers, retail groups, buying groups, designers and relevant trade customers
- Building and maintaining a strong pipeline of qualified new‑business opportunities
- Introducing natural and laboratory‑grown diamond and jewellery solutions to the Australian market
- Developing tailored product, ranging, pricing and commercial proposals for retail partners
- Leading sales presentations, product demonstrations and range‑development discussions
- Negotiating pricing, trading terms and commercial agreements within agreed parameters
- Converting new accounts into profitable, sustainable and long‑term partnerships
- Managing customers from initial engagement through onboarding, ordering and continued account development
- Conducting regular range reviews and commercial performance discussions
- Partnering with retailers to improve product selection, stock performance, sell‑through and account growth
- Developing account plans focused on retention, expansion and increased share of wallet
- Taking ownership of Australian revenue growth, gross margin, forecasting and sales performance
- Monitoring market trends, customer requirements, competitor activity and emerging opportunities
- Coordinating quotations, orders, product information, inventory requirements and delivery timelines
- Providing regular performance reporting and market intelligence to international leadership
- Translating local customer feedback into clear product‑development and operational priorities
- Proactively resolving supply, quality, delivery or service matters while maintaining strong customer communication
- Representing the business at customer meetings, trade fairs, buying events and industry functions
- Establishing effective local processes, reporting disciplines and commercial ways of working
- Developing the structure and business case for a future Australian team
- Recruiting and leading Sydney‑based sales and support employees as the operation expands
The Skillset |
To be successful in this role you will be an entrepreneurial and commercially driven business development professional with strong credibility across diamonds, fine jewellery or a closely aligned luxury category.
You will understand how successful wholesale jewellery partnerships are developed and maintained. Confident opening doors and engaging with business owners, buyers, merchandise teams and senior decision‑makers, you will bring the technical knowledge and commercial judgement required to convert opportunities into valuable long‑term accounts.
Equally comfortable developing strategy and executing it, you will enjoy working across every stage of the commercial process from identifying an opportunity and making the first approach to presenting product, negotiating terms and managing the resulting partnership.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated professional experience within the diamond or fine jewellery industry
- Strong technical and commercial knowledge of diamonds
- Understanding of both natural and laboratory‑grown diamond categories
- Proven success in wholesale new‑business development within jewellery, diamonds or a closely related luxury category
- Demonstrated experience securing business with jewellery retailers
- Established relationships within the Australian jewellery market, or a proven ability to develop a credible industry network quickly
- Experience working with independent retailers, jewellery groups, buyers, business owners and senior commercial stakeholders
- Sound knowledge of wholesale pricing, margins, inventory management, product ranging and retail sell‑through
- Proven ability to develop a sales territory, business division or market from an early stage
- Strong commercial judgement and confidence negotiating significant customer agreements
- Excellent presentation, communication and relationship‑management skills
- The organisational ability to manage multiple accounts, orders and operational priorities accurately
- Experience collaborating with international production, sourcing or operational teams
- A self‑directed, resilient and highly accountable working style
- The ability to succeed without an established local infrastructure
- Willingness to travel throughout Australia and attend relevant industry events
Gemmological qualifications or formal diamond training will be highly regarded, as will knowledge of diamond certification, traceability, responsible sourcing and relevant industry standards.
Experience working with diamond manufacturers or international production teams, developing branded or private‑label jewellery programmes, establishing a new territory, or recruiting and leading a commercial team would also be advantageous.
The Offer |
This is a rare opportunity to take genuine ownership of a significant international growth market.
The successful candidate will join an established business with strong product and operational capability while enjoying the autonomy and entrepreneurial scope of a market‑building position. You will have the opportunity to develop lasting retail partnerships, influence the local product and commercial strategy, and build a business and team that you can be proud to lead.
This opportunity will appeal to an ambitious jewellery professional who combines industry credibility with commercial drive, resilience and a genuine desire to create something of lasting value.
