Design Director

JDL Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with a fast-growing hyperscale, AI and cloud-focused data centre platform as they look to expand their team with a Design Director in Spain.

This is a permanent, strategically significant hire within the CTO organisation, working directly with the CTO. Where the platform's technical governance sits with the Principal Engineer, this role owns what gets built and why, defining the long-term design vision and translating it into practical, buildable, commercially viable projects.

The role must be based in Spain, ideally Madrid or Zaragoza, and fluent Spanish and English are essential.

Responsibilities:

• Define and maintain the overall design strategy and reference design platform.
• Lead multidisciplinary consultant teams across multiple concurrent projects.
• Drive campus masterplanning, concept design and technical solution development.
• Support major hyperscale, cloud and AI customer opportunities.
• Ensure alignment between design, development, procurement and delivery teams.
• Lead design governance, design reviews and technical assurance processes.
• Develop future-ready solutions for AI and high-density compute environments.
• Act as a senior representative of the business with customers, consultants, authorities and investors.

Requirements:

• 15+ years' experience in mission-critical infrastructure, with extensive data centre design experience.
• Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical and cooling infrastructure.
• Proven track record leading multidisciplinary consultant teams across multiple projects.
• Experience with campus-scale developments and hyperscale environments preferred.
• Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
• Previous experience working in Spain strongly preferred.
• Fluent Spanish and English essential.
