Your new role
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of an effective and efficient finance function. Acting as the primary finance contact for designated operational areas, you will work closely with managers and budget holders to provide financial guidance, robust reporting and insightful analysis to support informed decision-making.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and cashflow projections.
  • Monitoring financial performance and supporting budget holders with variance analysis and financial planning.
  • Maintaining month-end processes including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Producing financial reports and management information for senior stakeholders and external funders.
  • Supporting the financial management of grant-funded activities, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and accounting regulations.
  • Preparing VAT returns and completing regular bank reconciliations.
  • Monitoring cashflow and assisting with treasury-related activities.
  • Providing support across transactional finance functions, including purchase ledger, sales ledger and payroll reconciliations when required.
  • Assisting with internal and external audits and preparing supporting documentation.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and systems.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • AAT/ATI qualification, Accounting Technician qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in a finance position within the public, private or voluntary sector.
  • Experience in financial processing, reconciliations, ledger management, budget monitoring and financial reporting.
  • Experience supporting audit processes and maintaining strong financial controls.
  • Strong systems experience and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • The ability to manage workloads independently and prioritise effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and data protection requirements when handling confidential information.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Previous experience within a charity, voluntary or not-for-profit environment.
  • Knowledge of grant funding and restricted fund accounting.
  • Experience supporting external audit requirements.
