Role Description
The Senior Project Engineer is a full-time, Hybrid role (Site + Remote) based in the Greater Melbourne Area. This role is responsible for leading the technical delivery of complex building services and multi-disciplinary projects, with a strong focus on Mission Critical Facilities and Data Centres.
- Technical Advisory: Providing engineering advice to a range of stakeholders and ensuring services design is both efficient and compliant.
- Strategic Engagement: Managing the \"People\" side—this includes client relationships and construction teams.
- Project Stewardship: Oversee & involvement as part of the end-to-end delivery of projects from initial concept through commissioning stages.
- Value Engineering: Identify opportunities to simplify complex designs to reduce costs or lead times without sacrificing quality.
- Design Coordination: Participate in \"clash detection\" meetings between mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) services to ensure seamless integration before construction begins.
- Technical Peer Reviews: Conduct rigorous audits of engineers' calculations and designs to maintain high standards of accuracy and compliance.
- Quality Inspections: Conduct regular site walks to ensure that physical installations match the engineered drawings and meet Australian standards/Briefs or specific healthcare/mission-critical codes.
- Reporting: Prepare high-level monthly progress reports for clients that translate technical milestones & progress at a business level.
- Utility Liaison: Coordinate with external authorities (power, water, telecommunications) to ensure the infrastructure requirements for high-demand sites like Data Centres are met.
Qualifications
- Strong project leadership capabilities, including Project Management, Project Engineering, and Project Planning skills.
- Solid technical background in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, ideally within complex infrastructure, Mission Critical Facilities and Data Centres.
- Excellent Communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven experience managing end-to-end project lifecycles, from ECI and tender support through delivery and commissioning.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years experience working within design & construction projects.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes and safety regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical quality with program, cost and risk considerations.
- Experience mentoring and supporting junior engineers, with a commitment to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
