Role Overview

The Assistant/Associate Professor – Sound Design will teach, mentor and contribute to curriculum development in sound design, audio post-production, and related areas within film, media and creative arts programmes. The role involves academic delivery, practical training, research/creative practice and industry engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Sound Design, Audio Post-Production, Sound Recording, Mixing and related subjects.
  • Design and update curriculum, course content and practical modules aligned with industry standards.
  • Supervise student projects, short films, documentaries and creative works involving sound design.
  • Conduct and guide research or creative practice in sound and audio technologies.
  • Collaborate with faculty across film production, editing, cinematography and media disciplines.
  • Engage with industry professionals and facilitate workshops, masterclasses and placements.
  • Contribute to departmental activities, academic administration, and quality assurance processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Sound Design, Film Sound, Audio Engineering, Music Technology or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
  • For Assistant Professor: Relevant teaching/industry experience (preferably 2+ years).
  • For Associate Professor: Significant teaching, research, or professional experience (typically 8+ years) with evidence of academic or creative contributions.
  • Strong practical expertise in sound design tools and workflows (Pro Tools, Nuendo, Adobe Audition, Logic Pro, or equivalent).
  • Ph.D. in the relevant field will be an advantage

Preferred Attributes

  • Industry experience in film, OTT, advertising, or music production.
  • Portfolio of professional sound design work.
  • Experience in curriculum development and student mentorship.
  • Research publications, creative outputs, or festival recognitions (advantageous).
