The Learning Resources and Assets Branch, within the Curriculum, Career Education and Assessment Division of the Ministry of Education and Childcare, supports Alberta’s education system by advancing high-quality learning and teaching resources aligned with provincial curriculum priorities. The branch works to support students, parents, teachers, and administrators across Kindergarten to Grade 12 by helping ensure educators have access to resources that support effective teaching and meaningful student learning.
Reporting to the Director, Resource Strategy and Maintenance, the Manager, Strategic Operations, manages and coordinates the Strategic Operations team and provides strategic leadership in learning and teaching resources processes that are crucial to the successful piloting and implementation of new curriculum.
Role Summary
The role of the Manager, Strategic Operations is focused on the following areas:
- Team Leadership: Manage and coordinate the Strategic Operations team in support of branch priorities and operational effectiveness.
- Strategic Direction: Provide strategic leadership for learning and teaching resources processes that support successful piloting and implementation of new curriculum.
- Project Management: Lead and coordinate complex projects that support curriculum development, implementation, and continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advance learning and teaching resource priorities.
- Strategic Advice: Provide objective and strategic advice on sector processes and policies related to learning and teaching resources.
- Resource Quality: Ensure high-quality learning and teaching resources are available to the K-12 school system.
- Policy Alignment: Support alignment of resources with key policy documents, including the Ministerial Order on Student Learning and The Guiding Framework.
- Professional Learning: Lead the design and delivery of professional learning for internal and external stakeholders.
- Digital Resource Management: Support the delivery, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a digital collection of K-12 learning and teaching resources.
- Process Development: Provide strategic leadership in developing support documents and guides that clarify roles, responsibilities, and processes.
- Curriculum Priorities: Ensure learning and teaching resources reflect curriculum priorities, including literacy, numeracy, and competencies.
- Branch Goal Achievement: Support the director in achieving branch goals and advancing strategic operational priorities.

Qualifications
University graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by three years related experience.
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis
Required
- Experience leading complex projects, initiatives, or operational priorities.
- Experience supervising, coaching, or coordinating team members.
- Strong strategic thinking, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong Project Management Skills with experience working on multiple high priority items simultaneously.
- Experience developing or improving operational processes, guidelines, or support documents.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, consultation, and relationship‑building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including briefing and advice preparation.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a complex environment.
Assets
- Experience in K-12 education, curriculum implementation, or learning resource development.
- Knowledge of Alberta’s curriculum, education system, or related policy frameworks and legislation.
- Experience with digital learning platforms, resource collections, or online content delivery.
- Experience using data, feedback, or performance measures to inform planning.
This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate is expected to work out of the Edmonton Office.
The final candidate will be required to undergo a security screening.
