Compliance Auditor, Insurance Brokerage Operations

Full-Time | Hybrid (2x/week Downtown Toronto)

Do you have operational and financial experience working within a general insurance brokerage? Have you contributed to improving processes and ensuring compliance in a brokerage environment? If so, this opportunity may be of interest.

Our client is seeking a Compliance Auditor, Insurance Brokerage Operations to join their team. Reporting to the Manager, Compliance, this individual will assess the operational and financial practices of insurance brokerages, identify regulatory issues, and support risk-based compliance reviews.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct risk-based assessments of insurance brokerages using established audit frameworks
• Review operational documents and financial records to assess compliance with industry regulations and standards
• Analyze documentation to identify issues such as:
o Equity shortfalls
o Trust account discrepancies
o Position reporting anomalies
o Continuing education requirements
• Interview brokers and staff to gather information, clarify findings, and discuss recommendations or improvements
• Recommend appropriate next steps and escalate high-risk matters where necessary
• Clearly communicate audit findings, both verbally and in writing
• Follow established audit service standards, procedures, and professional guidelines

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

We are looking for someone with hands-on general insurance brokerage experience and a practical, risk-based approach to operational and financial compliance.

Requirements:
3–5 years of direct experience within an insurance brokerage
• Strong understanding of insurance brokerage operational and financial practices, including:
o Trust accounts
o Equity requirements
o Position reporting
o Internal controls
• Strong knowledge of the P&C general insurance industry
• Experience assessing operational and financial practices
• Knowledge of insurance brokerage legislation, regulations, by-laws, and professional standards, with the ability to apply them in an audit environment
• Proven ability to review detailed documentation, identify issues, and manage audit responsibilities from planning through reporting
• College diploma or university degree in a related field
CPA designation is considered an asset, but is not required
• Candidates without a designation must demonstrate strong, relevant financial experience within an insurance brokerage environment
RIBO licence and/or CIP designation (or actively pursuing) are considered strong assets
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to navigate difficult conversations with professionalism and diplomacy
• Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office

Please note: Candidates with experience limited to banking or AML, without direct insurance brokerage operations experience, will not be considered.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $65,000 – $85,000
