Job Overview
We are seeking dedicated and detail-orientedArchaeological Field Techniciansto join our team. This role involves participating in Stage 3 and 4 fieldwork, for a mix of remote and urban projects in Northwestern Ontario. Field technicians will possess a passion for archaeology and experience working physical outdoor labour.
We intend to fill existing vacancies for the ongoing 2026 field season.
Position Details
- Field Technician — Thunder Bay Area
- Job Type: Seasonal
- Pay: $24.00 per hour
- Work Location: In Person
Duties
- Participate in Stage 3 and 4 excavations.
- Collect and record data in the field according to specified methodologies.
- Collaborate with team members and work independently as required.
- Follow direction in terms of equipment care and ensure compliance with safety protocols during fieldwork.
- Furthermore, working 5+ days a week, weather permitting.
Qualifications
- Previous archaeological field experience is not required.
- However, possess excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently.
- Additionally, must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks associated with fieldwork.
- Likewise, familiarity and comfort with wilderness environments are considered an asset.

About Woodland Heritage Northwest
Woodland Heritage Northwest is a Métis-owned cultural resource management firm based at 280 Pearl Street in Thunder Bay. Founded in 2013, they specialize in Stage 1–4 archaeological assessments, Indigenous community engagement, and GIS mapping. They primarily support mining, forestry, and infrastructure projects across remote northern Ontario, navigating complex provincial heritage legislation within challenging boreal forest environments.
