About The Business And The Role

Our client is a growing, CBD-based boutique Chartered Accountancy firm providing a wide range of professional services to a dynamic and varied client base. To support this growth and expand into the future, they are seeking an energetic, qualified (or near-qualified) accountant with approximately 3 years or more experience in professional practice services.

This firm works with clients across a range of industries, including manufacturing, transport, event management and marketing, property development/construction, real estate, retail trade, hospitality, computer software/hardware, medical practitioners and equity investors.

They invest heavily in training and developing their team members to provide the highest level of service to clients. Team members are thorough, passionate about detail, technically proficient, organised, proactive and forward-thinking.

Responsibilities

This role provides exposure to a wide range of accounting, taxation, and advisory work.

  • Preparation of business services, accounting, taxation, and advisory matters to an intermediate level
  • Collection and analysis of client information to complete statutory financial statements and income tax calculations
  • Preparation of year-end financial statements (including SMSFs) to review stage
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly BAS, FBT returns, and annual income tax returns to review stage
  • Preparation of monthly payroll tax returns and annual reconciliations
  • Analysis and interpretation of financial statements to identify risks and opportunities
  • General corporate and taxation advisory support in response to client needs
  • Preparation of business reports, cash flow budgets, forecasts, and performance analysis
  • Client reviews, work-in-progress management, and billing support
  • General client communication and relationship management
  • Mentoring and support of undergraduate, graduate, and intern accountants
  • Collaboration with team members and working under direction as required

Skills & Experience

  • Completed Australian degree in an Accounting-related discipline
  • Approximately 3 years or more experience in professional services
  • CA or CPA qualified (or near completion)
  • Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, accrual accounting, trial balances, and fixed asset registers
  • Income tax and capital gains tax, BAS, GST, and FBT knowledge
  • Understanding of superannuation contribution and withdrawal rules
  • Working knowledge of private business and investment structures
  • Basic ASIC compliance knowledge
  • Experience with accounting and tax software, including Xero, MYOB and/or Software Assist
  • Strong Excel and spreadsheet skills, including cash flow modelling
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Strong communication skills and a client-focused approach
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency required
