A privately owned WA business is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer or Mechanical Product Designer to join its growing team.

This role involves developing specialised machinery and mechanical equipment for industrial and off-road applications. You will work across both new product development and the improvement of existing equipment, helping turn operational requirements into practical, reliable and manufacturable designs.

We are looking for someone who combines strong design capability with a practical understanding of how machinery is fabricated, assembled, operated and maintained.

You will work across both new product development and the improvement of existing equipment, helping turn operational requirements into practical, reliable and manufacturable designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical equipment from initial design briefs through to manufacturing release.
• Produce detailed 3D models, components and complete mechanical assemblies.
• Prepare manufacturing drawings, bills of materials and supporting design documentation.
• Design fabricated components, mechanical systems and moving assemblies.
• Consider manufacturing, assembly, transport, operation and servicing requirements throughout the design process.
• Work with hydraulic and electrical systems as part of complete equipment designs.
• Support prototype construction, testing, design reviews and product improvements.
• Review existing equipment and develop practical solutions to performance or reliability issues.
• Liaise with management, production personnel, suppliers and other stakeholders as required.
• Maintain accurate design files, revisions and technical records.

About You

The successful applicant will ideally have:

• Previous experience in mechanical design, product development or machinery design.
• Strong practical skills using Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience producing complete assemblies, individual components and manufacturing drawings.
• A good understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of hydraulics and electrical systems used in machinery or equipment.
• Experience designing for manufacture, assembly and servicing.
• An understanding of FEA, design validation, prototype development or equipment testing.
• The ability to work independently, manage priorities and solve practical design problems.
• Strong attention to detail and an understanding of how design decisions affect manufacturing and real-world operation.

Experience with mobile equipment, industrial machinery, agricultural products, fabrication or a related industry would be highly regarded.

A relevant engineering, mechanical design or drafting qualification is preferred. Applicants with substantial practical design experience will also be considered.

Design Software

Autodesk Inventor is the primary design platform used by the business. Applicants should be experienced and confident using Inventor for detailed parts, assemblies and production drawings.

Location and Flexibility

The business is located south of Perth, within travelling distance of Baldivis, Rockingham and the surrounding southern suburbs.

Remote work will be available as part of a flexible working arrangement. However, the successful applicant must be able to attend the workplace when required for project meetings, measurements, design reviews, prototype builds and equipment testing.

The exact balance between remote and on-site work can be discussed with suitable applicants.
