Overview Job Description: Duties & Responsibilities 1. Responsibilities Develops business and functional requirements for systems and applications and supports systems in accordance with IT practices, processes, and procedures. Requirement Analysis Conducts analysis of business and user needs to develop requirements for the implementation, support or revision of systems and applications.
Elicits requirements using interviews, document analysis, functional systems analysis, requirements workshops, and other appropriate information gathering tools. Assists internal clients in developing project scope statements, including the definition and documentation of objectives, translating them into business requirements and clear deliverables. Performs analysis of existing business processes, procedures, and practices.
Devise enhancements to the business processes utilizing existing systems and applications features as well as potential new or modified functionality. Define modifications to the existing functional systems behaviours or define recent system functionalities required to support the new or modified business processes. Utilizes standard industry practices and methodologies for requirement gathering, documentation and maintenance including collaborative and iterative requirement development, requirement reviews, signoffs, utilization of UML, Use-Cases, user interface designs, maintaining requirement catalogue, traceability, and repositories.
Testing Verifies that the application or the modifications satisfy the requirements and design. Reviews end results with the client for sign-off. Provides applications and systems support: Writes and maintains application and system operating procedures, checklists, and other related documentation.
Monitors and maintains application and system operational functions in the College production environment. Defines, analyses, designs, and maintains operational reports to ensure data integrity and systems conformance. Assists users in resolving operational challenges related to the use of IT applications and systems.
Creates and delivers individual or group end user demonstrations and training regarding new applications and system modifications. Gathers and documents user feedback and suggestions for new features, usability enhancements, and other applications and systems improvements. Diagnoses, responds to, and resolves routine and emergency applications and systems issues in production environments.
Continual Training & Professional Development Engages in continual training and professional development: Takes a personal interest in maintaining currency in software industry by continually monitoring trends and evolution of tools, techniques, methodologies, and standards, and shares this information with team. Participates in conferences, user and special interest groups meetings, online research, and personal reading to monitor trends. Shares information with the team via discussions, brainstorming, presentations, and other type of activities.
Based on these observations and findings, makes suggestions and recommendations to the product / business analysis team to improve and advance product development within the College. Suggests, advises, and engages in continuous personal and team training courses and programs to further his/her personal development and the knowledge and performance of the team. Additional Responsibilities Provides backup to the other business analysts as needed.
Performs other related duties and/or projects as required. Mentors other team members in best practices and Quality Business Analysis standards. Qualifications Education & Experience: Bachelors degree preferred or two-year diploma from a recognized institution in computing science, business administration, or an equivalent technology or business discipline.
Minimum six (6) years of recent related experience including four (4) years of functional requirements development, two (2) years of business requirement development, and two (2) years of software development or testing. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Additional specialized industry training of up to one year in business analysis techniques in software development lifecycle.
Solid understanding of Use-Case driven requirement development, SDLC methodologies, tools, techniques, and agile practices. Good understanding of UML and experience with at least one of the UML modeling tools. Experience with Azure, M365, Power BI and SharePoint is an asset.
Skills & Abilities Excellent communication skills, verbally and written, in English. Excel at explaining and demonstrating complex business and technical concepts to all audiences. Ability to liaise with clients and assist them in the definition and articulation of their requirements.
Ability to produce clear, concise, unambiguous, and easy to read functional design and requirements documentation. Ability to think outside the box, re-evaluate, and improve business analysis techniques. Effectively analyze, understand, and evaluate the business and application functional impacts of modifications or enhancements.
Provide advice and support to users on the use and operation of application systems. Organize and manage time to meet deadlines. Effectively contribute to the overall improvement of department services and operations, team spirit, and morale.
Work both independently and as a member of a committee or team. Work harmoniously with others. Aptitude to learn new methodologies, tools and technologies for requirement analysis and development.
