Job Description
The Manager, Development will lead the Faculty of Health Sciences’ private revenue generation through major, bequest, and principal gifts. The role partners with academic and administrative champions to develop a pipeline of donors, cultivate relationships, and secure significant revenue to support research and teaching. Responsibilities Model a culture of collaboration, integration, and service to support the University’s core research and academic missions.
Provide leadership and direction on the creation and implementation of annual development plans and support the implementation of campaigns, strategies, and practices to increase revenue generation across the Faculty. Accountable for monitoring, evaluating, and measuring the Faculty’s strategic plans to ensure they achieve goals, outcomes, and alignment with University Advancement goals. Work with senior leadership of the Faculty and University Advancement to develop advancement plans aligned with academic priorities and foster a compelling case for support.
Build and manage a high‑performance team committed to the Faculty’s short‑ and long‑term goals. Collaborate with senior leaders to establish goals, objectives, and annual professional development plans for team members, supporting continuous improvement and readiness for change. Engage and support volunteer leadership to staff fundraising visits within the Faculty.
Develop and meet team and individual development goals as determined by University Advancement leaders. Support University Advancement leaders in engaging senior university leadership and volunteers to cultivate and solicit principal gift supporters. Allocate budget program or portfolio resources, ensuring prioritization to meet university objectives and outcomes.
Work with the Director, Development to implement strategies that enhance the University’s major‑giving program and generate consistent and significant new revenue. Lead campaign strategy implementation, including designing, managing, and monitoring campaign development activities. Provide leadership by monitoring campaign and initiative progress, recommending plan adjustments, and reviewing solicitation strategies.
Maintain deep knowledge of Faculty activities, needs, and priorities to match potential supporters’ interests. Identify, cultivate, and solicit support from a portfolio of supporters, collaborating with senior academic leaders, development leadership, and key volunteers. Manage the team, offering direction, motivation, mentoring, and support to development professionals.
Collaborate with stewardship to support the creation and delivery of major‑gift announcements, events, and stewardship programs. Represent the Faculty and University at community and university events, nationally and internationally. Work closely with other University Advancement areas to support operational financial goals and the Advancement mission and strategic goals.
Qualifications Minimum six years of experience in major‑giving fundraising, preferably within post‑secondary or health‑care settings. University degree required; master’s degree or advancement designation is an asset. Proven track record of securing complex gifts $250K and above.
Visionary, strategic thinker with a creative and entrepreneurial mindset. Superior analytical, judgment, decision‑making, relationship‑building, and communication skills (oral, facilitation, and written). High initiative, tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
Deep understanding of the mission of a research‑intensive university. Strong human‑resources, volunteer, and budget management skills with financial acumen and data‑analytics comfort. Credibility working with senior academic leaders, donors, and volunteers.
Ability to operate at the highest strategic level of the Faculty to gain and maintain trust of senior leaders. Experience staffing senior leadership fundraising visits. Ability to navigate a collaborative, complex organization while valuing individuality and creativity.
Superior donor‑relationship building and stewardship skills, including writing winning proposals and development materials. Donor‑centered, goal‑oriented, with a reputation for integrity and transparency. Competency in tax legislation and the philanthropic landscape.
Strong skills with computers and relational donor databases (Advance).
