Position Description Manage overall day-to-day activity of the accounting department and oversee all project accounting staff. Reports To Financial Manager, Operational Finance Essential Duties & Responsibilities Create a supportive setting to develop a high‑performing finance team, provide training opportunities, and engage in mentoring relationships. Lead accountants and other related team members, provide timely performance feedback and contribute to performance appraisals during the annual performance cycle, utilizing talent management systems.

Review all contracts and participate in project set‑up meetings with project staff to ensure contract compliance. Manage accounts receivable function to ensure accurate and timely billings. Review monthly cash‑position reports to ensure over/under billings are correct and the cash‑management strategy is aligned between finance and operations.

Review hourly, part‑time, overtime, and bi‑weekly submissions of timesheets (salary payroll) for accuracy and completion. Resolve daily project issues including subcontractor disputes and, when appropriate, elevate to the financial manager. Review special check requests to ensure paperwork is in order prior to submission to the financial manager for approval.

Resolve local tax reporting issues, including sales and use tax. Ensure movement of pre‑construction expenses to job cost. Ensure billing proofs are complete and accurate.

Manage monthly and quarterly departmental audits in compliance with policy and procedures. Review and monitor timely and accurate submission of all reports submitted by accountants. Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field. Five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Construction industry experience preferred.

Supervisory/management experience of a small team preferred. Thorough application of accounting principles (e.g., journal entries, general ledger). Analytic ability to review and assess financial data, interpret trends, and recognize inconsistencies.

Understanding of accounting implications of various contract terms. Demonstrated understanding of cash flows and implementation of procedures to optimize interest income. Knowledgeable of policies and standards to ensure compliance while identifying financial risks.

Experience displaying actions related to profitability and risk management and effectively communicating risk‑management issues. Exercise independent judgment and discretion with the ability to identify problems and initiate corrective action. Capable of applying innovation to offer and implement suggestions to improve overall operations.

Ability to manage multiple activities, requests, and short‑cycle deadlines simultaneously. Proficiency with financial system applications, MS Excel, and MS Office. Self‑motivated, adaptable, and flexible to operate with minimal direction and very little or no supervision in a complex and changing environment.

Lead by example and set standards for performance and behavior; act with integrity and professionalism, and demonstrate strong dedication to teamwork. Professional written and verbal communication skills. High degree of organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

Work Environment The employee regularly works on‑site at construction work sites where they are exposed to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risks of electrical shock. Noise in these work environments is typically moderate to very loud.
