Job Description
Role Overview As a Contracts Manager for Construction PCL Inc. in Montréal, Quebec, you will partner with project leadership across construction, procurement, legal and client teams to align contractual obligations with project execution strategies and shared project goals. Responsibilities Review contract and subcontracting documents to ensure proper execution in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Identify, communicate, and manage contract risks and opportunities.
Prepare and issue any formal correspondence or notices required for the client and business partners. Identify any potential or actual claims for the project and inform the Director, Finance Department and Business Risk Department. Coordinate claims management to mitigate losses for PCL.
Coordinate dispute resolution and provide assistance in resolving contractual disputes, as appropriate. Assist in the interpretation, negotiation and approval of deviations from an existing purchase order, consultant or subcontract contract, including special clauses, and ensure that risks are mitigated. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues.
Develop strong relationships based on trust and mutual respect with the owner, project team and design team. Participate in the change management process for the project, leading or supporting negotiations with owners or contractors. Qualifications Advanced degree in engineering or related discipline, or professional experience, or equivalent. 14 years of progressive experience in contract management with exposure to risk management and legal issues preferred; experience with on‑site projects is an asset.
Understand and comply with all collective agreements, government legislation and LCP policies and procedures, and be able to influence the district's strategy and translate it into goals. Advanced risk interpretation, negotiation skills and strategic thinking to ensure PCL's interests are protected in all contractual and subcontracting agreements. Understanding of contract and construction law as it relates to tender documents, types of contracts, commercial terms and conditions and claims management.
Understanding of the terms and conditions of subcontracts, including insurance, subcontractor default insurance (SDI) and bonding requirements. Advanced oral and written communication skills. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
