Job Description

Overview As a Senior Optimization Engineer at Hitachi Energy, you will develop the software and mathematical models that support real‑time and market‑based choices across the power system. You will work at the intersection of power systems, electricity markets, optimization, and software development, designing, building, testing, integrating, and documenting applications that help utilities and market operators run markets efficiently and support reliable grid operations. Responsibilities Analyze customer requirements and propose technically sound solutions for power system and electricity market applications.

Design, develop, and test optimization applications that support power systems and market operations. Integrate software solutions and prepare documentation in line with established development practices. Support software releases and troubleshoot complex technical issues to help maintain solution performance and customer outcomes.

Research and apply advanced mathematical modeling and numerical methods to improve application capability. Collaborate with internal teams and represent Hitachi Energy in customer meetings. Contribute to improving software development processes and technical documentation.

Travel occasionally to support global customer projects. Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines. Qualifications Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in Canada.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electricity markets. Minimum five years of experience in optimization modeling tools and solvers (AMPL/AIMMS, CPLEX, Gurobi). Minimum three years of experience with high‑level programming languages.

Minimum three years of experience using Linux or AIX operating systems. Minimum two years developing power system application software for electricity markets. Sound written and oral communication skills in English.
