As a Data Governance Manager, you'll join the Chief Data Office (CDO) at the heart of DWP's data transformation - helping to drive forward how we manage, protect and use data to deliver better services for millions of people. This is an exciting time to join.

Our 2030 Data Strategy is already underway, alongside the introduction of a new Data Hub and Spoke model. You'll play a key role in turning strategy into reality, working across the organisation to embed strong governance, improve data quality and ensure we use data safely, ethically and effectively. If you enjoy working with stakeholders, solving complex problems, and influencing how an organisation uses its data, this role offers real scope and impact.

The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us. What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

Experience working in a data governance role, including putting governance frameworks or practices into action and understanding data protection rules. Experience advising teams on how to manage and use data properly, while building strong working relationships across different areas. Ability to explain complex or technical data topics in a clear, simple way to non-technical audiences.

Strong problem-solving skills, with experience working through uncertainty, understanding complex information, and identifying and communicating data risks. You and your role You'll work at the centre of DWP's data governance activity within the Chief Data Office, supporting the rollout of our Data Strategy and helping to build a consistent, effective approach to how data is managed across the organisation. Your work will span a wide range of governance priorities.

This could include helping design and implement our Data Governance Framework, supporting Data Governance Boards, or contributing to the rollout of our Data Ownership and Stewardship model. You'll also play a key role in improving how we measure and manage data quality, ensuring data is reliable, trusted, and fit for use. You'll work with teams across DWP and wider government, offering guidance on data governance standards, supporting compliance with data protection legislation and contributing to cross-government data initiatives.

You may also be involved in emerging areas such as data ethics and governance for AI, helping ensure innovation is supported by strong governance foundations. As part of a flexible job family, you'll have the opportunity to work across different areas of data governance over time. You might choose to specialise in areas such as Data Quality or Data Sharing, or develop as a generalist across multiple domains.

With DWP Digital, you'll be supported with training, development opportunities as well as professional qualifications to help build your expertise and career. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with and influencing stakeholders as well as helping organisations make better, safer use of their data. Your work will directly support better decision-making and improved outcomes for citizens - making a genuine difference at scale.
