The Amherst Residential platform provides a comprehensive suite of services to facilitate the ownership of single family rental properties, including property management services, asset-level financing, and asset management services. With a deep understanding of and proprietary analytics on the single-family home and mortgage markets, Amherst's platform combines a unique combination of national scale with local market knowledge and execution. Amherst is seeking a highly analytical Data Scientist to join our Analytics & Data Science team.

This role is ideal for a someone with a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and predictive modelling who enjoys solving complex business problems using large-scale data. The successful candidate will work with real estate, financial, and operational datasets to develop analytical frameworks, evaluate predictive models, identify patterns, and generate actionable insights. The role also involves auditing and evaluating Large Language Models (LLMs) to improve the quality and reliability of AI-driven solutions.

Job Description (Primary Responsibilities) β€’ Analyze large and complex datasets to uncover trends, anomalies, and business opportunities. β€’ Develop, validate, and improve statistical and predictive models. β€’ Perform model diagnostics, error analysis, and hypothesis testing to understand model performance. β€’ Write efficient SQL queries and build analytical workflows using Python. β€’ Evaluate, audit, and improve outputs generated by Large Language Models (LLMs). β€’ Translate analytical findings into actionable business recommendations. β€’ Partner with business and technology teams to solve high-impact real estate and financial analytics problems. Desired Skills/Qualifications: β€’ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field. β€’ 3–5 years of experience in Data Science, Analytics, Quantitative Research, Machine Learning, or a related analytical role. β€’ Strong understanding of probability, statistics, regression, hypothesis testing, predictive modeling, and data analysis. β€’ Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python. β€’ Experience evaluating machine learning model performance, conducting root-cause analysis, and performing model validation. β€’ Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and the ability to critically assess, audit, and improve their outputs. β€’ Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment. β€’ Experience in financial services, real estate analytics, valuation models, forecasting, or investment analytics is preferred. β€’ Exposure to machine learning model monitoring and performance evaluation. β€’ Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or similar data visualization tools. β€’ Strong mathematical intuition and statistical thinking. β€’ Ability to work with ambiguity, solve complex business problems, and translate data into actionable insights. β€’ High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for data-driven decision-making.
