Engineering Manager
Greenspace Health
Job Description
At Greenspace, our mission is to empower mental health systems, providers, and individuals in care with the MBC technology and data they need to continuously enhance care quality. We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and grow our Clinical Solution engineering team—a high‑impact group building the tools that directly improve how mental health care is delivered across North America. This is a player‑coach role : you’ll lead through mentorship, process, and strategic clarity, while staying genuinely hands‑on with the technical work alongside a team navigating the rapidly evolving AI‑assisted development landscape.
The Role You’ll manage a lean team of engineers working on our Clinical Solution product, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering Operations. Your job is to help each individual do their best work—removing obstacles, raising the technical bar, and creating an environment where engineers grow and continuously ship meaningful product. This isn’t a purely managerial role.
You’ll be in the code: contributing to reviews, participating in design discussions, and leading by example. As AI‑assisted development reshapes what individual and team productivity looks like, you’ll help the team adopt and evaluate these tools—and model what it means to use them with strong engineering judgment. What You’ll Do Coach direct reports through regular 1:1s, clear expectations, and ongoing feedback—helping each person grow in their role and career.
Hire and onboard new engineers; facilitate performance reviews and career development conversations. Build trust and clarity so the team can focus on doing their best work. Facilitate knowledge sharing through code reviews, pairing, design discussions, and other forums.
Technical Contribution Stay hands‑on: contribute to code reviews, technical design and architecture, and write code regularly. Help the team navigate AI‑assisted development—evaluate tools, establish good practices, and model what it looks like to use AI effectively without compromising correctness, security, or maintainability. Raise the bar on engineering quality: testing practices, code hygiene, CI/CD, observability, and scalability.
Contribute to building AI‑powered product features where appropriate—LLM integrations, agentic flows, evaluation pipelines. Delivery & Process Own the team’s delivery health: ensure we’re continuously shipping high‑quality product improvements in a CI/CD environment. Collaborate closely with Product and Design as well as other product development teams to shape the roadmap, break down work, and deliver iteratively.
Maintain and evolve agile processes that help the team move fast without accumulating unnecessary debt by balancing short‑term delivery with long‑term technical health. What You’ll Bring (Key Skills) Player‑coach mindset: Comfortable moving between writing code and leading people—and knowing when each is needed. You lead by example, not just direction.
AI‑assisted development: A practitioner’s understanding of how GenAI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, Cursor) change engineering workflows—what they’re great at, where they fall short, and how to build a team culture that uses them well. Leadership: Experience hiring, coaching, and managing software engineers. Able to give direct, constructive feedback and build trust quickly.
System design: Proficiency in designing scalable, maintainable systems—databases, APIs, job queues, integrations, cloud infrastructure. Engineering processes: Comfortable implementing and iterating on software delivery practices—CI/CD, code quality, testing, security, compliance, and reliability. Communication: Strong written and verbal communicator; able to translate between technical and non‑technical audiences and align across Product, Design, and Customer Success.
Growth mindset: Continuously learning and helping others do the same—especially in a landscape where the tools and best practices are evolving quickly. Nice to Have Experience in digital health, healthcare software, or other regulated/sensitive data environments. Familiarity with healthcare compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2).
Experience building GenAI‑powered product features end‑to‑end. Benefits CAD $150 K – $180 K base salary. Bonus and equity.
Healthy work/life balance—building a startup is a marathon, not a sprint. A tight‑knit, collaborative work environment where we work in teams, not silos. Flexible hybrid‑remote environment with physical hubs in Vancouver, Kelowna, and Toronto.
Ongoing mentorship, coaching, and personal development opportunities from experienced team members and external resources. Generous vacation and comprehensive benefits package, including paid parental leave. Diversity Statement We believe that diversity makes our organization stronger and we are committed to being an equal opportunity employer.
