Shopify Developer - Senior

Role Overview We are seeking a skilled professional who combines strong hands-on Shopify development experience with the ability to manage technical execution and mentor junior developers. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical lead for our Shopify storefronts, taking ownership of custom development, performance optimisation, app integration and technical planning. You will also work closely with internal junior developers and help guide project delivery in line with business goals.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Development & Architecture Custom Theme Development: Design, build and maintain highly customised Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML5, CSS3/SASS and modern JavaScript frameworks. App Integration & API Management: Integrate third-party Shopify apps and build custom integrations using REST and GraphQL APIs to connect ERP, CRM and fulfilment systems. Performance Optimisation: Continuously monitor and improve site speed, Core Web Vitals and technical SEO to deliver a fast and seamless user experience.

Headless Commerce: Evaluate and support a potential transition to a headless architecture using Next.js or Hydrogen, where aligned with business growth plans. Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough cross-browser and cross-device testing to ensure accurate, stable and bug-free deployment of features. Management & Strategy Technical Roadmapping: Work with the marketing and operations teams to translate business requirements into a scalable technical roadmap.

Team Leadership: Mentor internal junior developers and act as the main point of contact for external development agencies and SaaS vendors. Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO): Lead technical A/B testing initiatives and use data insights to recommend and implement UI/UX improvements that improve conversion and revenue. Project Management: Use Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira, Asana or Trello to manage sprint planning, prioritise backlog items and ensure timely delivery.

Security & Compliance: Oversee store security, user access management and compliance with relevant privacy and payment standards, including GDPR, CCPA and PCI requirements. Required Skills & Qualifications Experience: Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in Shopify/Shopify Plus development, with at least 2 years of experience in a technical leadership or project coordination role. Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Liquid, JavaScript (ES6+), React or Vue.js, HTML/CSS, and web performance optimisation tools.

E-commerce Knowledge: Solid understanding of the e-commerce lifecycle, including merchandising, checkout flows, payment gateways and fulfilment operations. Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data from Google Analytics, Shopify Analytics and heat-mapping tools to support technical and commercial decision-making. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Version Control: Proficiency in Git and familiarity with modern CI/CD deployment practices. Desirable / Bonus Skills Experience building custom Shopify apps using Node.js, Ruby on Rails or Python Experience migrating large-scale stores to Shopify Plus Knowledge of UX/UI principles
