Job Description

Role Overview As a Senior AV Network Engineer in the AV Core Infrastructure (ACI) organization, you are an architect and site reliability engineer for the secure hybrid network fabric that powers the global AV development pipeline. You are responsible for the high‐performance connectivity required to move petabytes of sensor data from physical test benches into our cloud runtimes. This role treats the network as software.

You will lead the design of architectures that bridge the gap between on‐prem validation and test worker pools and our GCP cloud environments. Your mission is to ensure the network is never a bottleneck for developer velocity, applying SRE principles to maintain a seamless, secure, and resilient Data Flywheel for GM's Vehicle Autonomy mission. Key Responsibilities Treat Network as Code (NaC): Lead the transition toward fully automated, software‐defined infrastructure where all network changes are version‐controlled, peer‐reviewed, and deployed via CI/CD pipelines.

SLO Ownership: Define, monitor, and own critical Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for network performance, focusing on latency, throughput, and availability metrics that impact the AV engineering pipeline. Toil Reduction: Apply SRE principles to identify and automate repetitive manual tasks, ensuring the team remains focused on high‐value architectural improvements. Observability: Build and maintain advanced telemetry and monitoring stacks to provide real‐time visibility into the health of hybrid interconnects and on‐prem validation pools.

Hybrid Network Architecture & Strategy: Design and scale the global backbone connecting on‐prem data centers, test tracks, and public cloud providers (primarily GCP Interconnect and potentially Azure ExpressRoute); architect secure, multi‐tenant network segments that isolate AV intellectual property while allowing high‐speed access for developer tools and automated build processes. Data Ingestion & On‐Prem Validation Connectivity: Optimize the end‐to‐end data path from hardware ingestion points through the secure cloud network and into production storage/runtimes; ensure networking requirements for on‐prem validation and test worker pools are met, providing low‐latency, high‐reliability paths for real‐time hardware‐in‐the‐loop simulations. Security, Performance & Reliability: Implement zero‐trust network architectures, ensuring end‐to‐end encryption for data in transit without sacrificing throughput; manage error budgets and act as the final escalation point for complex network outages, using packet analysis and telemetry.

Technical Domain Knowledge Expertise in high‐performance networking (BGP, EVPN, VXLAN) and deep understanding of data‐center fabrics. Advanced proficiency in cloud networking (VPC design, Shared VPCs, Cloud Armor, Cloud Load Balancing). Deep experience with SRE and network automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Python, Go) and telemetry stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).

Experience with hybrid‐cloud connectivity and high‐throughput data ingestion for validation/test environments. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in large‐scale enterprise, service‐provider networking, or SRE roles. Professional‐level certifications (e.g., CCNP/CCIE, Arista ACE, Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer).

Proven experience applying SRE principles to networking infrastructure at scale. Strategic problem‐solving and independent analysis skills, with ability to present executive‐level recommendations. Compensation Salary range: $170,000 – $215,000 (actual base salary will vary).

Bonus potential: Incentive pay based on company performance, job level, and individual performance. Benefits Health, dental, vision; Health Savings Account; Flexible Spending Accounts; retirement savings plan; sickness and accident benefits; life insurance; paid vacation & holidays; tuition assistance; employee assistance program; GM vehicle discounts.
