Mainframe Developer

What Youll Be Doing (position summary): The Mainframe Developer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting applications on IBM mainframe platforms. This role leverages expertise in COBOL, DB2, and IMS-DB to deliver robust solutions in a mission-critical environment. The incumbent collaborates with business analysts, QA teams, and other IT professionals to ensure high-quality, compliant, and efficient application delivery.

How Youll Succeed (responsibilities): Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, and IMS-DB.

Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Develop and optimize batch and online processes in the mainframe environment. Perform code reviews, unit testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, ensuring minimal downtime. Collaborate with cross-functional teams for system integration and deployment. Prepare and maintain technical documentation for applications and processes.

Ensure compliance with security, audit, and regulatory requirements. CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Collaborates with business analysts to understand and refine requirements. Works with QA teams to ensure quality and compliance of deliverables.

Partners with other IT professionals for system integration and deployments. Interacts with infrastructure and operations teams to ensure optimal application performance. Engages with external vendors as needed for support and modernization initiatives.

JOB DIMENSIONS: Responsible for design, development, and maintenance of mainframe applications supporting business-critical functions.

Impacts multiple business units through delivery and support of reliable mainframe solutions. Provides advisory and technical support for modernization and integration projects. Covers enterprise-wide mainframe systems with direct influence on operational stability and compliance.

Experience: 5+ years of experience. Who You Are (skills/qualifications): Must Have Skills: 5+ years of proven experience in mainframe development, specifically with COBOL, DB2, and IMS-DB. Strong knowledge of IMS-DB database structures, data modeling, and transaction processing.

Proficient in JCL (Job Control Language) and mainframe utilities. Experience with debugging tools such as Abend-AID, IBM Debug Tool, or similar. Familiarity with SDLC methodologies and Agile practices.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Good to Have: Experience in banking or financial services domain.

Knowledge of CICS and other mainframe transaction processing systems. Exposure to modernization initiatives (e.g., migration to distributed platforms). Understanding of DevOps practices in mainframe environments.
