What Youll Be Doing (position summary): As a Senior Data Consultant, you will lead the modernization of business reporting and analytics at CIBC, working closely with the Analytics Head Office in Toronto. You will migrate legacy SAS/SQL reporting solutions to Azure cloud, convert SAS code to Python, and deliver advanced reporting and business insights using Power BI and other BI tools. In addition, you will leverage AI tools and techniques where appropriate to accelerate and optimize the migration processes.
Your role is focused on partnering with business stakeholders to translate their needs into actionable reporting solutions, not backend pipeline development. How Youll Succeed (responsibilities): Reporting Solution Ownership: Lead the end-to-end migration of legacy reporting assets (SAS/SQL) to Azure, converting code to Python and delivering business-ready reporting solutions. Business Collaboration: Engage with business stakeholders to understand their needs, translate business problems into effective reporting and analytics solutions, and communicate insights clearly. Advanced Reporting: Develop and deliver dashboards, ad hoc analyses, and business intelligence reports using Power BI and Python, enabling data-driven decision-making.
Data Preparation: Prepare and transform data for reporting, leveraging SQL, Python, and Azure cloud tools as needed. Migration & Modernization: Convert existing SAS code and SQL processes to Python-based solutions on Azure, ensuring accuracy and performance. Leverage AI tools and techniques where appropriate to accelerate and optimize the migration process, including automated code conversion, data quality checks, and enhancement of reporting workflows.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with business partners and analytics teams, acting as a trusted advisor for business reporting. Team Leadership: Coach and develop analytics professionals, fostering a collaborative environment focused on business value. Compliance: Ensure all reporting solutions meet CIBCs standards, policies, and controls.
Cross-Functional Relationships: Work with CIBC Analytics Head Office (Toronto), PBB Data & AI teams, Enterprise Advanced Analytics & AI, Platform teams, and other business units to deliver integrated reporting solutions. Experience: 10+ years in data/analytics roles Proven experience migrating legacy reporting solutions (SAS/SQL) to cloud-based platforms and Python. Strong track record delivering business reporting and actionable insights.
Experience leveraging AI tools/techniques in data migration, transformation, or reporting is an asset. Who You Are (Skills/Qualifications): Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, Power BI, and Azure platforms Deep Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and other Azure tools (nice-to-have). Deep experience in business reporting, analytics, and translating business needs into reporting solutions.
Hands-on experience converting legacy code to Python and migrating reporting assets to the cloud. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills; able to independently solve business problems. Strong leadership and team development skills.
Innovative, adaptable, and proactive in delivering business value. Experience using AI tools or automation to enhance reporting or migration processes (preferred). Nice-to-Have: Experience with other BI tools (e.g., Tableau).
Familiarity with ETL pipeline development (helpful but not the primary focus).
