Job Description Job Title: Windows Server Migration Engineer (Consulting/Freelance opportunity) Location: Fully remote Client: US based Type: 6-month contract Hours: US Day shift. Hours will fluctuate week-to-week. Note: PF and Gratuity wont be included and Pay would be on Hourly basis.
JOB SUMMARY: As a Windows Server Migration Engineer, you will play a critical role in upgrading and modernizing a large-scale server environment to achieve Windows Server 2012 R2 end-of-support compliance by October 2026. You will execute clean rebuilds to Windows Server 2022, perform in- place upgrades from Windows Server 2016, and handle Azure lift-and-shift migrations using Azure Migrate. RESPONSIBILITIES: Execute clean rebuilds of approximately 190 servers to Windows Server 2022 using five golden- image templates (File, Application, Database, Web, AD-integrated). Perform in-place upgrades from Windows Server 2016 to Windows Server 2022 with rollback snapshots and post-upgrade validation. Conduct Azure lift-and-shift migrations for Wyomissing site servers using Azure Migrate appliance, replication monitoring, and scheduled cutovers.
Collaborate with application owners to meet 48-hour response SLAs and 5-day change-control windows during migrations. Review and accept handoffs from offshore Server-Image-Build engineers on golden-image hardening and ADMT batch pre-staging. Coordinate with US L3 FSMO and Active Directory Migration Specialists during legacy domain controller replacement waves.
Execute dependency-validated Azure cutovers with comprehensive rollback plans and post- cutover validation. Collect end-of-support compliance evidence and run final compliance scans to support the October 14, 2026 attestation. Perform server consolidation decommissions with accurate CMDB updates.
Leverage PowerShell automation for image builds, server configurations, and migration tasks. QUALIFICATIONS: 5+ years Windows Server at scale (100+ servers). Bachelor's in IT or equivalent experience.
Windows Server 2022, Azure Migrate, PowerShell expertise. Active Directory, ADMT, and FSMO migration skills. ServiceNow or ITSM change management experience.
