Warehouse Operative
NHS National Services Scotland
Job Description
**This vacancy is only open to those who have been referred by a Local Employability Partner**
This post is a 6 month Fixed Term
On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.
As part of this transformation, NSS and NES have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.
About the Organisation:
PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future. We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.
The Post:
The Warehouse Operative post will be based within PSD Scotland's National Procurement logistics and warehousing function at Canderside, Larkhall. Canderside forms part of the national distribution network supporting NHS Scotland and wider public services, managing the receipt, storage, picking, packing and dispatch of healthcare products, medical consumables and PPE. The postholder will work as part of a busy warehouse team alongside warehouse colleagues, team leaders, supervisors, inventory teams, logistics planners, customer service colleagues and health, safety and quality staff to support safe, accurate and timely fulfilment of orders to NHS Boards and care settings across Scotland.
The Candidate:
We are looking for reliable, motivated candidates who can work well as part of a team in a fast-paced warehouse environment. Candidates should be able to follow safe systems of work, carry out manual handling duties, maintain accuracy when picking and checking stock, and support good housekeeping across the warehouse. Good communication skills, attention to detail, basic numeracy and literacy, and a willingness to learn are essential.
Previous warehouse, logistics, stock control or distribution experience would be helpful but is not essential, as training will be provided. Candidates must be able to work safely, take instruction, use handheld or warehouse systems where required, and contribute to a respectful and inclusive team culture.
Location and Working Pattern:
Location: National Distribution Centre, Canderside, Larkhall.
Working pattern: Warehouse operations may include day, backshift and/or nightshift working across Sunday to Thursday or Monday to Friday patterns, depending on service need. Final hours and shift pattern to be confirmed with the recruiting manager.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK and have entitlement to work in the UK for the post in which you will be employed.
Benefits:
