Vice President — Sourcing, Development & Technical Design (Los Angeles)
Tai Apparel
Job Description
About the role We’re hiring a hands-on senior leader to own end-to-end product creation for our apparel business from concept and development through technical design and sourcing/manufacturing partnerships. This role requires strong commercial judgment, deep technical design expertise, factory sourcing experience, and the ability to operate in ambiguity as we build and scale. Key responsibilities • Lead product development: drive concept-to-sample cycles, approve tech packs and manage fit sessions to ensure retailer standards are met. • Own sourcing strategy and vendor relationships: secure capacity, negotiate costs and commercial terms. • Source new factories: identify, vet and onboard manufacturing partners to expand capacity and capabilities; run audits and negotiate terms. • Lead Technical Design: build and oversee technical design functions — grading, spec development, fit protocols and tech pack accuracy to ensure consistent fit and construction. • Improve operations: introduce process and technology improvements (PLM/ERP, tech-pack standards, tooling for fit and measurement) to reduce lead time and rework. • Ensure compliance across sourced partners regarding safety and social responsibility standards. • Lead the team: coach and develop development, sourcing and technical design staff; provide regular updates to the executive team. • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Design, Merchandising, Supply Chain and Finance to align product, cost and go-to-market timing.
Success measures (examples) • Sample-to-production (or purchase-order release) lead time reduced • Accuracy and completeness of tech packs / reduction in tech related rework • Number of qualified new factories onboarded and vendor scorecard improvements (capacity, cost, compliance) • Cost negotiation outcomes during development phase (target margins/met) • Successful on-time new product launches Qualifications • 10+ years in apparel product development, technical design and sourcing (senior leadership preferred). • Proven experience leading technical design teams, creating/standardizing tech packs, grading and fit protocols. • Experience sourcing and onboarding factories, negotiating cost and commercial terms. • Strong commercial acumen, results orientation and excellent communication skills. • Willingness to travel to vendor sites. Why join Be part of a fast-growing team where you’ll shape product fit and construction standards, introduce new processes and directly impact product and business outcomes. Flexibility and comfort working “in the grey” are essential.
