Vice President of Development & Marketing

Our client, a well-established mission-driven nonprofit organization in Sonoma County, is seeking a Vice President of Development & Marketing to lead an integrated strategy across fundraising, marketing and communications, grants, and community engagement.

Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a member of the executive leadership team, this role is ideal for a nonprofit leader who understands how philanthropy, storytelling, community relationships, and organizational visibility work together to drive growth and long-term sustainability.

What You'll Lead

  • Develop and execute integrated strategies across fundraising, marketing, communications, grants, and community engagement.
  • Lead organizational marketing, brand positioning, communications, digital presence, and public relations.
  • Oversee fundraising and donor engagement strategies, including grassroots, mid-level, and broader philanthropic initiatives.
  • Provide leadership across the full grants lifecycle, including strategy, writing, submissions, compliance, reporting, and funder relationships.
  • Strengthen community partnerships and identify new opportunities to expand organizational visibility and impact.
  • Partner closely with the CEO, Board, and senior leadership on organizational strategy, revenue growth, and community engagement.
  • Establish measurable goals, KPIs, budgets, and performance expectations across areas of responsibility.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop teams across Development, Marketing & Communications, grants, and community-facing initiatives.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7โ€“10+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit development, marketing, communications, philanthropy, advancement, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success across fundraising/donor engagement, grants, and strategic marketing and communications.
  • Experience developing and executing organizational growth and revenue strategies.
  • Strong executive-level communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
  • Experience partnering with CEOs, Boards, funders, donors, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple strategic priorities.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit fundraising, grants, community engagement, and mission-driven communications.
