Veon is a leading provider of Forestry, Ecology and Arboriculture services, offering a nationwide service to the forestry, renewable energy, local and national government, private developers and public bodies.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and competent GIS Technician who is interested in developing their skill set across a diverse range of fields in Forestry, Ecology, and Arboriculture. The role reports to the Managing Director – Forestry, and the successful candidate will manage the company’s GIS systems to support all three specialisms in delivering for our broad range of clients.
Based at our head office in Dublin 18, this is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a high level of GIS proficiency to join a growing and supportive team.
Responsibilities:
- Asset mapping and maintenance of existing GIS applications (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and QGIS).
- Spatial analysis using ArcGIS Pro and presentation of GIS data to the Ecology, Forestry and Arboriculture teams and clients.
- Use GIS to process data and examine datasets, create new datasets, and enhance visual outputs, making data easier to interpret.
- Be part of projects, ensuring data collection is accurate and up to standard.
- Dissemination and control of data in the GIS system, maintaining the integrity of the system.
- Proactively work with Senior Management to further develop the role and enhance the service being provided to the rest of the Veon team and our clients.
Requirements:
- Hold a degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or an equivalent qualification that has GIS as a significant component. As the company offers services in forestry, arboriculture, renewable energy and ecology, a degree in these areas would be desirable but not essential.
- Detailed knowledge of ArcGIS software and associated applications (Fieldmaps and ArcGIS Online) and QGIS. A working knowledge of AutoCAD would be beneficial.
- A working knowledge of Python would be beneficial.
- Data management and information management skills.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Fluent English speaker is essential.
