Job Description

What You’ll Do

As an Urban Design & Landscape Architect Principal within the Advance Planning Group (APG), you will shape and grow a planning, urban design, landscape architecture, and real estate strategy practice — locally in Atlanta and across the Americas. You’ll strengthen our market presence, partner across Jacobs’ business lines, and deliver integrated, resilient design and planning solutions. The role spans practice leadership, business development, talent growth, and project excellence.

Practice Development

  • Build an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative APG practice in Atlanta and across U.S. markets.

  • Partner with regional leaders to expand service offerings, strengthen market strategy, and position the team for future opportunities.

  • Support growth in key hubs (New York, Chicago, Toronto, DC) and markets (Commercial, Healthcare, Higher Education, Science & Technology).

  • Work across Jacobs’ water, transportation, environmental, health, and energy sectors to deliver integrated resilience and planning solutions.

Talent Leadership

  • Support development of APG talent across geographies and service lines.

  • Mentor staff, identify growth pathways, and foster a culture of collaboration and performance.

  • Partner with APG leadership to align resources, recognize performance, and support team development.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Model servant leadership that builds trust, engagement, and accountability.

  • Contribute to APG’s national strategy, service line integration, and major pursuit efforts.

  • Participate in local and regional office leadership, contributing to strategic decision‑making and culture.

Partnerships, Client Development & Marketing

  • Maintain a strong, accurate sales pipeline in collaboration with sales teams using CSP (Salesforce).

  • Engage in thought leadership through speaking, writing, and industry presence.

  • Lead or support proposal development and help deepen client relationships across APG and regional markets.

Financial Management

  • Monitor project performance against work plans and key metrics (margin, AR, backlog, etc.).

  • Leverage national talent to deliver high‑quality work efficiently.

  • Identify and mitigate risks, support quarterly forecasts, and contribute to annual business planning.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field
  • Minimum of 20 years of relevant professional experience
  • Deep experience in planning and development strategies related to resilience and the complex challenges facing urban environments
  • Willingness to travel within the region, nationally, and internationally on a limited basis
  • Valid US Driver’s License
  • Excellent writing, oral, presentation, and graphic communication skills

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Master’s degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related discipline

  • Professional licensure/registration (AICP, RA, RLA or equivalent)

  • Strong experience with commercial mixed‑use, transit‑oriented development (TOD), and transportation‑focused planning
