Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children Clinical Fellowship Posts In The Following Area Trust Fellow (Equiv. ST6+) in ECMO & Cardiac Intensive Care These posts are suitable for a specialty trainee ST6 equivalent and above, or equivalent trainee, or post CCST additional specialist experience and open to both national and international applicants. The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital has 19 commissioned beds and is one of the largest in the UK dedicated to the care of children with congenital and acquired heart disease, with over 700 admissions annually.

The unit provides comprehensive care for critically ill children with complex heart disease, including nearly 600 open heart surgeries per year. It also offers five highly specialised services: extracorporeal life support (ECLS), mechanical circulatory support including ventricular assist devices (VAD) programme, heart/lung transplantation (largest in Europe), a dedicated national tracheal programme and a national paediatric pulmonary hypertension service. The CICU team is committed to advancing the field of paediatric cardiac critical care through continuous education, research, and innovation.

With the hospital being the lead centre for paediatric intensive care for North Thames, the CICU training provided is bespoke and comprehensive. Responsibilities Provide medical care to patients on cardiac intensive care and ensure efficient service delivery within cardiac intensive care services. Work in close cooperation with the wider multi-disciplinary team including cardiorespiratory and intensive care services.

Coordinate care of children on cardiac intensive care, including those with complex congenital heart disease, extracorporeal life support or ventricular assist device. Take part in all activities of the unit, supervise and support more junior members of the clinical team. Adhere to unit and hospital protocols and clinical practice guidelines; follow the unit’s policy on admissions and discharges.

Occasional emergency cover may be required, while an agreed duty rota is carefully followed.
