Transport Engineer IV

Overview Responsible for planning, engineering, and executing long‑haul transport network capacity builds across SONET, ULH, and OTN mesh networks. Supports network growth, capacity creation, and transport optimization aligned with business and customer demand. Key Responsibilities Create and manage Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) for domestic transport network builds Perform capacity planning, forecasting, and monitoring of ULH and transport networks Engineer SONET and DWDM transport systems and support network expansion projects Perform wavelength rearrangements to optimize and reduce stranded capacity Develop network designs, diagrams, BOMs, cable requirements, and engineering specs Coordinate with stakeholders (planning, operations, real estate, NOC, project teams) for execution Ensure availability of space, power, cooling, fiber, and diversity planning for builds Update and maintain network inventory systems (ICON, Nautilus, CoFEE, CCP, etc.) Support diversity analysis, network forecasting, and capital planning Provide reports, analysis, and presentations to transport planning leadership Participate in troubleshooting and restoration support for fiber outages as needed Mentor junior engineers and support cross‑functional engineering alignment Key Skills & Requirements 5–10 years of experience in SONET / DWDM / long‑haul transport networks Strong knowledge of ULH, OTN mesh, and optical transport architecture Experience in network capacity planning and transport engineering Proficiency in Visio, Microsoft Office, and engineering documentation tools Familiarity with telecom systems like ICON, CCP, Nautilus, BGW, CANVAS (preferred) Strong understanding of fiber, power, space, cooling, and network diversity impacts Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholder coordination skills Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Benefits Health, Dental and Vision Benefits Short/Long Term Disability and Critical Care/Illness Protection Life Insurance and Retirement Plans Employee Assistance Program Your safety matters!
