Job Description
Traffic Engineer - Highways & Traffic Management An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Traffic Engineer to join a busy highways and transportation team delivering a diverse programme of traffic and road safety schemes. Due to an increasing workload and ongoing investment in transport infrastructure, you will play a key role in designing and delivering projects that improve safety, accessibility and network efficiency. This position offers involvement across a wide range of traffic engineering schemes including pedestrian and cycle improvements, traffic calming measures, speed management, crossings, parking restrictions and Traffic Regulation Orders.
Key Responsibilities Design and deliver traffic engineering schemes from concept through to construction completion. Prepare detailed construction drawings, specifications and implementation packages. Liaise with internal design teams on street lighting, structures, traffic signals and associated highway infrastructure.
Monitor project budgets and programme delivery. Prepare Health & Safety documentation in accordance with CDM Regulations. Manage consultations with stakeholders, elected members, community groups and the public.
Prepare reports, Traffic Regulation Order documentation and objection reports. Support scheme delivery during construction and provide technical input on-site. Delegate tasks to junior engineers and technicians whilst supporting team development.
Requirements Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering or a related discipline. Significant experience delivering traffic engineering or highway improvement schemes. Strong knowledge of DMRB, Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) and Traffic Signs Manual.
Experience providing design support during construction phases. Good understanding of CDM Regulations and highway health & safety requirements. Experience preparing technical reports and presenting findings to senior stakeholders.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior staff. Full UK driving licence.
