About Role

One of our clients, a leading communications company operating in the Defence sector, is looking for a Systems Engineer to join its team. Electronics is the core of this role, with a strong focus on systems integration rather than low-level board design. You will define how different equipment, signals and communication protocols connect within integrated communication systems, supporting the full lifecycle from customer requirements and system design through documentation, testing, installation, commissioning and acceptance.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse customer requirements and translate them into technical system and network solutions.
  • Assess existing infrastructure and recommend enhancements or new architectures to meet business and technical requirements.
  • Design, implement, and support secure communication networks, ensuring performance, resilience, and scalability.
  • Produce high-level and low-level design documentation (HLD/LLD) for network and infrastructure solutions.
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot networking equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and associated technologies.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues across network, server, virtualised, and integrated systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful integration of networking, virtualisation, and communications platforms.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Good understanding of electronic systems at integration level, including signals, interfaces, cabling, connectors and communication protocols.
  • Hands-on experience integrating different electronic, communication or control systems, including analog and digital electronics, signal processing and embedded hardware principles.
  • Ability to analyse and troubleshoot complex electronic and communication system issues, breaking problems down to identify root causes at hardware, signal or system level.
  • Experience reading, interpreting and producing technical documentation, including high-level and low-level design documents.
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail and ability to work in technically demanding environments.
  • Good written and spoken English is required; Portuguese is highly valued.

Nice to Have

  • Experience or familiarity with networking, telecommunications systems and communication protocols.
