Job Description
Job Grade 106 2 hrs per day SUMMARY: Under supervision, to perform a variety of activities in the observation and supervision of students, assist in managing student behavior and to do other related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES . Other duties may be assigned.
Maintains a cooperative relationship with fellow staff members, students, and the general public. Adheres to and enforces district, state, and federal laws, policies, procedures, and regulations. Monitor and assist students in unstructured activities such as playground, breakfast, lunch, and transportation waiting activities.
Direct students into safe learning activities and functions, and assist in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors. Assist in the management of student behavior through the use of positive strategies and techniques. Administer routine first aid and request assistance for non-routine injury or illness.
Assist in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive school environment. May participate in parent conferences and other student progress report activities. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : Knowledge of: Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics; Student behavior management strategies and techniques; Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures. Ability to: Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups; Communicate effectively in English and a second language, as required by the assignment; Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate recreational materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Previous work in child care. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
Persons performing service in this position classification may exert 20 to 30 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work involves standing and walking most of the time, but may involve running or sitting for brief periods.
