Overview Staff Software Engineer at Jobber. Teams McWeb: Build and maintain the tools, architecture, and foundations powering Jobber Online at scale. Develop shared libraries, standards, platform capabilities for performance, reliability, and observability.

Lead modernization of frontend stack, adopting new technologies to enhance developer productivity and user experience. QuoteMeal: Power Jobber’s quoting and estimating experience. Build flexible, high‑impact web and mobile solutions that streamline quoting for service providers, helping them win more work with less effort.

Role Summary As a technical champion and force multiplier, you lead and mentor teams of exceptional engineers while collaborating closely with Product and Design partners to tackle complex technical challenges. Your expertise spans architecture, design, and hands‑on coding, enabling significant impact on product and customers. A portion of your time is dedicated to Staff Dev Projects, including cross‑team initiatives, acceleration within teams, emerging technology exploration, and technical debt reduction.

Responsibilities Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to conceptualize, design, and iteratively deliver high‑impact features that address customer needs. Partner with Product and Design teams to shape and define the strategic product roadmap. Identify and lead large‑scale initiatives that drive innovation across multiple teams or departments.

Actively participate in code reviews and testing processes to ensure code quality and maintainability. Champion the development of consistent engineering practices and reusable code solutions to enhance overall efficiency. Lead and facilitate group discussions to drive consensus on optimal solutions for complex customer problems.

Research, promote, and implement industry best practices within your domain, staying at the forefront of technological advancements. Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, bridging the gap between technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members at all levels, fostering their professional growth and career development.

Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in developing highly scalable, robust software solutions across multiple technology layers. Hands‑on experience using tools like ChatGPT, Cursor, and Copilot to balance AI efficiency with craftsmanship. Proven leadership experience guiding teams through complex, high‑impact projects as a technical lead.

Exceptional proficiency in software design, architecture, and coding, focusing on maintainability and performance. Outstanding collaboration and communication skills, amplifying team productivity and effectiveness through mentorship and coaching. Strong self‑motivation and resourcefulness, independently identifying and leveraging resources for project delivery and problem‑solving.

Ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritize tasks effectively in dynamic, fast‑paced environments. Passionate commitment to continuous learning, staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends. Preferred Experience with our development stack: React, React Native, TypeScript, GraphQL API layer, Ruby on Rails on AWS.

Led cross‑team initiatives and projects. Work Environment Choose where you work: fully remote across Canada or hybrid from Edmonton (HQ) or Toronto offices. Compensation Minimum annual salary: $145,900; midpoint: $171,600; maximum: $197,400.
