Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to providing a safe, respectful, compassionate, and person-centred environment. We are currently seeking a Registered General Nurse (RGN) to join our dedicated nursing team.
Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the Staff Nurse role is to provide high-quality, safe, and person-centred nursing care to residents while supporting the effective operation of the nursing home.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Director of Nursing, nursing and care teams, residents, families, GPs, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure that residents receive the highest possible standard of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical & Resident Care
- Provide safe, effective, and person-centred nursing care to residents in accordance with their individual needs.
- Complete comprehensive assessments of residents' physical, psychological, social, and emotional needs.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and regularly review individualised care plans.
- Monitor residents' health and wellbeing and promptly identify, document, and elevate any changes in condition.
- Arrange GP and other healthcare professional reviews where required.
- Administer prescribed medications safely and accurately in accordance with NMBI standards, prescriptions, and Trinity Care policies.
- Carry out clinical procedures within your scope of professional practice.
- Conduct regular resident checks and ensure appropriate follow-up of identified needs.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation.
- Provide clear and comprehensive handovers at the end of each shift.
- Support residents with activities of daily living while promoting independence, dignity, privacy, choice, and quality of life.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- Work closely with residents, relatives, GPs, allied health professionals, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Care Planning & Clinical Documentation
- Ensure each resident has an individualised and up-to-date care plan.
- Review care plans regularly and update them in response to changes in residents' needs.
- Ensure all clinical assessments, interventions, medication administration, and relevant observations are accurately documented.
- Maintain records in accordance with NMBI professional standards, HIQA requirements, GDPR, and company policies.
- Contribute to clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and care reviews.
- Communication & Teamwork
- Establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with residents, families, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
- Communicate effectively with residents and their families regarding care and wellbeing.
- Participate in staff meetings, resident reviews, care planning meetings, handovers, and multidisciplinary team meetings as required.
- Work effectively as part of the nursing and care team.
- Provide appropriate guidance and support to Healthcare Assistants and junior members of staff.
- Support newly appointed staff as required.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and collaborative working environment.
- Health, Safety & Infection Prevention
- Comply with all nursing home health and safety policies and procedures.
- Follow infection prevention and control policies and best practice.
- Report accidents, incidents, infectious illnesses, hazards, safeguarding concerns, and other risks promptly to the appropriate person.
- Follow emergency, fire, evacuation, and other relevant safety procedures.
- Ensure all clinical equipment is used safely and appropriately.
- Report faulty equipment, damaged furniture, or other potential hazards.
- Promote safe working practices among colleagues.
- Professional Development
- Maintain professional knowledge and clinical competence.
- Participate in mandatory training and continuing professional development.
- Keep up to date with current nursing practice, legislation, clinical guidelines, HIQA requirements, and NMBI standards.
- Participate in supervision, training, education, and development opportunities as required.
- Support the induction and development of new and junior staff where appropriate.
- Quality, Compliance & Governance
- Maintain compliance with relevant HIQA standards and nursing home regulations.
- Adhere to the professional standards, Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, and relevant guidance issued by NMBI.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Comply with GDPR and all relevant data protection requirements.
- Participate in clinical governance, audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed within the required timescales.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of resident care and service delivery.
- General Responsibilities
- Maintain the security and safety of the nursing home.
- Ensure equipment and clinical areas are clean, safe, and appropriately maintained.
- Notify the Director of Nursing / Person in Charge as soon as possible if unable to attend work.
- Maintain professional boundaries in all interactions with residents and colleagues.
- Protect residents' confidentiality, dignity, rights, and personal information.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be assigned by the Director of Nursing or management.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- A recognised nursing qualification.
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) as a Registered General Nurse.
- Eligibility to practise as a Registered General Nurse in Ireland.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- A genuine interest in working with older people.
- A compassionate, respectful, and person-centred approach to resident care.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of clinical care and professional practice.
- Knowledge of relevant nursing standards, legislation, and HIQA requirements.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience working in a nursing home, elderly care, rehabilitation, or community care setting.
- Previous experience caring for residents with dementia or complex care needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of HIQA standards and nursing home regulations.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
- Additional relevant clinical qualifications or training.
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
