Sr. Staff Computational Protein Engineer (Enzyme Evolution / Design) Company Overview An early-stage genomics company developing next-generation innovations in sequencing and advanced nucleic acid detection. The company is building: A single-molecule DNA sequencing technology designed to enable ultra-long read lengths, low error rates, and significantly reduced cost per genome A portable, field-deployable diagnostic platform capable of delivering rapid, high-sensitivity, sample-to-answer results in minutes These technologies aim to expand access to genomic insights across research, clinical, and population-scale applications.
Position Overview Seeking a Senior Staff Computational Protein Engineer to lead computational design and optimization of enzymes supporting next-generation sequencing and molecular detection platforms. This individual will drive structure-based modeling, sequence optimization, and integration of computational approaches with experimental workflows, partnering closely with wet-lab teams to accelerate protein engineering efforts. Key Responsibilities Lead computational protein engineering efforts, including enzyme design and optimization Apply structure-based modeling and simulation techniques to guide protein design Develop and implement strategies for sequence optimization and variant prioritization Integrate computational design with directed evolution and high-throughput screening workflows Collaborate closely with experimental (wet-lab) teams to validate and iterate on designs Analyze structural and functional data to inform next-generation protein variants Contribute to scientific strategy and provide technical leadership across programs Qualifications PhD in Computational Biology, Protein Engineering, Biophysics, Structural Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field ~10–15+ years of industry experience Deep expertise in computational protein design, enzyme engineering, or structural modeling Experience leading computational efforts within protein engineering or directed evolution programs Strong understanding of structure–function relationships in proteins Proven ability to work cross-functionally with experimental teams Strong communication and leadership skills
