Spanish Teacher - Montreal
Vamos Academy
Job Description
We are looking for Spanish teachers to teach in person in Montreal. Your students are local residents: adults learning for work or travel, teenagers preparing for exams, and beginners who have never studied a language before.
In Montreal most learners already speak two languages, and they expect a third to be taught by someone who understands that.
What you would actually do
- Teach Spanish in person, in small groups and one to one, from absolute beginner upwards.
- Plan lessons for the students in front of you rather than working through a book page by page.
- Assess new students properly and place them in the right group, which matters more than it sounds: a misplaced student usually just stops coming.
- Track progress and tell students the truth about it.
- Prepare candidates for recognised exams where that is what they want.
What we are looking for
- Spanish at C2 level.
- An ELE qualification: a master’s, a teacher training course, or the equivalent.
- Experience teaching adults, and comfort with mixed-ability rooms.
- The right to live and work in Canada, and the ability to invoice as a self-employed professional.
- You live in Montreal and can teach in person. This is not an online role.
- Availability for evenings and weekends, because that is when adults can come.
A real advantage: experience with teenagers or exam preparation, and English strong enough to explain a grammar point to a nervous beginner.
How the arrangement works
This is freelance work, paid monthly. You invoice your hours once a month and are paid monthly. Hours depend on enrolment in Montreal and are agreed with you in advance, not sprung on you the day before. Concrete terms are discussed during the selection process.
About Vamos Academy
Vamos Academy has taught Spanish and English since 2010. We have our own campuses in Málaga and Buenos Aires and teach in other cities across Europe and the Americas, Montreal among them. It means your students can carry on with us if they ever go and study in Spain or Argentina, and a few of them will.
Questions people ask
Is this employment?
No. It is a freelance arrangement: you invoice, and you are paid monthly. We say so plainly here rather than letting you find out on the first call.
How many hours are there?
It depends on the season and on enrolment in Montreal. We will give you real numbers in the first conversation instead of a promise.
Do I need to be a native speaker?
No, and we would not ask. We ask for C2 level, which is a description of what you can do rather than where you were born.
