Software Engineer–Developer (Development)
The Boeing Company
Job Description
Job Description Boeing is hiring a hands‑on engineer to develop and operate mission‑critical infrastructure and automated delivery for our software platform in Kent, WA. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining repeatable, secure, and observable environments that support our production mission. You will write and test code that provisions infrastructure, pipelines, and deployment artifacts – be directly accountable for their reliability in production – and empower teams by delivering tooling as a service.
Core responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK to provision AWS accounts, VPCs, networking, IAM, and other cloud resources in a repeatable and auditable manner. Build, operate, and harden CI/CD pipelines to deploy services and serverless functions into development, staging, and production environments with automated testing and policy enforcement. Containerize applications using Docker and maintain Helm charts (or equivalent packaging) for reproducible deployments.
Implement environment bootstrapping and teardown automation so teams can create consistent, short‑lived test and integration environments. Deliver and operate internal developer‑facing platforms and tooling as a service (TaaS): self‑service infrastructure, deployment, observability, and security controls that let product teams move faster with confidence. Define, collect, and improve delivery and reliability metrics (DORA metrics: lead time, deployment frequency, MTTR, change failure rate) and translate metrics into actionable improvements.
Integrate security and compliance controls into the delivery pipeline and infrastructure (SAST/SCA/DAST, secrets management, IAM policies, auditing). Operate and troubleshoot mission‑critical runtime and deployment issues; perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures. Provide developer‑facing support, documentation, training, and graduated access to the TaaS platform.
Engage directly with end users and stakeholders: gather feedback, present solutions to customers, and iterate on platform features. Evaluate and adopt tools, practices, and automation patterns that improve availability, resilience, security, and maintainability of production systems. What success looks like Mission‑critical systems provisioned and deployed reliably through automated pipelines and self‑service platforms.
Repeatable and auditable infrastructure lifecycle managed via code and version control. Improvement in delivery performance and system reliability measured using DORA metrics. Security and compliance checks integrated into CI/CD and infrastructure automation.
Clear documentation and reduced time to resolution for production incidents. Product teams empowered to self‑serve environments and deployments with measurable reductions in lead time and operational friction. Positive feedback from internal users and customers driven by TaaS improvements and direct engagement.

Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts and introductory experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK. Basic experience with CI/CD systems. Preferred qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 2+ years of related work experience, or Bachelor’s Degree and 6+ years of directly related experience, or 10+ years of related, relevant experience.
Experience with serverless or container orchestration. Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools. Prior exposure to regulated, safety‑critical, or aerospace environments.
Understanding of delivery and reliability metrics (DORA or equivalent) and desire to instrument and improve them. Good troubleshooting and incident response mindset for production systems. Clear communication skills and willingness to support teams and present to stakeholders and customers.
